Cancer 28 ~ “Activate the key within.”

“Activate the key within.”

The Span of Ingenuousness

Phase 118

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 28° A modern Pocahontas

This is a symbol of effective co-operation between various phases of human culture, such as those which have become crystallized in a faithfulness to the special values they have held intact and those which provide the new potentials of a genuine frontier spirit. These differences as brought to unity are a stimulus to a greater differentiation of the self in its own illimitable capacity for expanded relationships.

The keyword is COMPATIBILITY

When positive, the degree is high skill in bringing older or neglected reality to the service of fresher and more vital self-fulfillments, and when negative, an inability to make personal adjustments and a stupid exaltation of conservatism.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-spiritual-receptive.

Unlocking the Civilization of Ancient Egypt

Just how special is a birthday—your birthday, let’s say?

Champollion deciphers the Rosetta Stone this day in history:

The Moment of Deciphering – the Big Breakthrough! “He returned to the text in hieroglyphics on the Rosetta Stone, and found … a phase referring to “birthday celebrations.” This clinched it. Overwhelmed by the power of his discovery, Jean François abandoned his room, and ran through the streets, to reach his brother, who worked nearby at the Institute de France. He raced into the room, shouting “Je tiens l’affaire!,”—“I got it!”

Phase 117

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 27° A storm in a canyon

This is a symbol of a pyramiding reality on the side of external circumstances, or of violence and terror as divine in their capacity for lifting man out of his aplomb and demanding some manifestation of his inner ideals and enduring values. Here is the indomitable integrity of everything to be taken as of consequence in its own right, shown in the energy with which it preserves itself.  Nature ever dramatizes man’s unleashed powers, or his ability to rise in supremacy over each momentary crisis.

When positive, the degree is an enlistment of every resource in life for a heightened expression of self, and when negative, fatuous enjoyment of turmoil.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-spiritual-sensitive.

Passenger – Life’s for the Living

Seeing is believing, and believing is seeing! The Universe is always ready, able and willing to respond.

Brocken Spectre Heart

“I was flying over Oregon when I looked out and saw this heart-shaped figure,” he says. “It was one of those moments when the Universe aligns and takes your breath away.” DeFreece suspects, probably correctly, that the shape of the clouds bent the usual circular glory into the heart-shaped apparition. Mystery solved? Not entirely. Glories are caused by sunlight reflected backwards from water droplets in clouds. Exactly how backscattering produces the colorful rings, however, is a mystery involving surface waves and multiple reflections within individual droplets. Each sighting is a lovely puzzle, so grab the window seat and keep an eye on the clouds below.

When there is a storm in the canyon, especially one where evacuation becomes necessary due to the increasing and unrelenting intensity of the storm–when hunkering down will no longer do–there’s very precious time to gather the few things that you can take with you. This decision making under pressure becomes equal in intensity to the storm itself. What will I take? What will I leave behind? Knowing that total destruction may result, we now find ourselves grabbing this and clutching that. Here now, in our arms, are those things we truly value most!

I recall a true story about a woman whose house was on fire and ran out with her collection of wigs! The teller of the tale and I had a good chuckle, but inside ourselves, I suppose we were both wondering what we’d find in hand after the “storms” of our lives had passed by. Sobering thoughts… We need to be clear on…

The Span of Ingenuousness

Phase 116

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 26° Contentment and happiness in luxury, people reading on davenports

This is a symbol of a pure mastery of experience in its outer aspect, and of a full capitalization on the potentials of all being in a personal and ultimately immortal realization. The static symbolism is a warning against idle self-indulgence, and an emphasis on the fact that any lessening of practical responsibility is primarily a call to self-strengthening and a prelude to some greater outreaching.

The keyword is REPOSE

When positive, the degree is a relaxation valuable for the momentary sustainment of human aspiration whenever it is strained beyond its powers of self-regeneration, and when negative, the loss of all reality in a needless softness of living.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-spiritual-experimental.

Go the Distance ~ Michael Bolton

Taking a well-deserved break

You deserve a break! Sit back, put your feet up, relax! Feel better?

Okay, soon you’ll have to get back at it! But for now, just relax. You’ve earned it.

Remember the Library of Alexandria? Well, in Marc’s personal reflections on the Sabian symbols in 1931—not 1953, which were the official Sabian symbols later written for the public—Marc described Cancer 26 this way: “The magnificent, luxurious library of some wealthy home is revealed; among the cushions several guests are reading.” The keyword at that time was not Repose; it was Relaxation, and he interpreted it as a degree of whole souled participation in life, positively, and negatively as a surrender to trivitality. He said, “..the soul does not depend on these things, but reaches out to higher objects of interest.”

When you go into a library, you will see signs or be reminded by the librarians to “Please be quiet.” Why? Respect. Respect for what? For the fact that, these many people reading books are actually in many diverse worlds. You see their bodies only. If you could see what they see… If you could inhabit the many worlds inhabited within their minds through the pages of these books simultaneously, I dare say you would experience an adventure of quantum magnitude! So, please, whether trivial to you or not—please respect the mastery of experience of these resposed and relaxing ones! They are on a high adventure well-earned and of personal and ultimately immortal realization. Now, go choose a book and take a break. You deserve it!

“Let the world keep on spinning.”

The Span of Ingenuousness

Phase 115

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 25° A dark shadow or mantle thrown suddenly over the right shoulder

This is a symbol of the irrevocability of man’s obligation to the reality of which he is a part, with the emphasis on his capacities of leadership as a revelation of racial stewardship on the more personal or spiritual side. Self-expression here is a release of his inner potentialities, and it becomes both an individual gratification and an expanding responsibility to all other individuals making up the social complex.

The keyword is DESTINY

When positive, the degree is some dramatic manifestation of genius vital to the general welfare of man, and when negative, a tendency to unwarranted presumption if not outright megalomania.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-social-inspired.

When life turns on a dime, have no fear! You can do it! …thanks to your sixth sense, that is! So, go with the flow!

Ahmad Wali – Dost

They say that we find our destiny on the road we take to avoid it. In astrology chart reading, there is a point called the Vertex, also known as the point of destiny–a point that, when utilizing the Sabian symbol for that degree, can assist us in understanding more about those unavoidable turns that direct us to our destiny. If so, then maybe we won’t have to be so surprised when we get thrown a curve ball by life, but instead, come to those moments with conscious participation rather than a desire for escape or avoidance. You can go through life kicking and screaming or you can go through life with your shoulders back and your chin up–either way, you’re here which means you ARE going through life one way or the other. It’s about knowledge and choice.

When things turn on a dime

Dimes are not only the smallest coin used in US currency, but also the thinnest, measuring only 17.91 mm or .705 inches in diameter and 1.35 mm or 0.053 inches in thickness. To “turn on a dime” then, is an expression of changing direction rapidly, but also in a very small space, i.e., a tight turning radius. By extension, anything that can “turn on a dime” makes a radical change in direction and very quickly.

Proprioception – the Sixth Sense

“Our bodies are incredibly good at moving, often without any conscious involvement. Just think: sitting down, standing up, picking up objects, throwing, catching, jumping, skipping, running… The reason we can make all of these movements without thinking (or falling over) is because of something called ‘proprioception’ – our body’s sense of its own position, balance and movement. Proprioception provides us with ‘body awareness’ and is commonly referred to as our ‘sixth sense’.”

Go with the flow

When life turns on a dime, whether by conscious choice or by outside circumstance, consider going with the flow until you have a grasp of the new energies you find yourself in. That which we resist persists. Knowledge of the new surroundings is critical, i.e., seek first to understand and then to be understood. To go with the flow is not advisement to go wherever the wind blows, but to take stock of the new environment, and to look before you leap.

Phase 114

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 24° A woman and two men on a bit of sunlit land facing south

This is a symbol of the soul’s necessary decisiveness in the basic allegiances of life, here emphasized in the terms of practical or everyday relations. There must be a mediation between the competing demands for immediate attention to various transient needs, and for some consistent or over-all goal which will bring an individual’s efforts into a cohesive pattern. The inner capacities must be disciplined continually for the sake of a plethora of outer opportunities.

The keyword is INCEPTION

When positive, the degree is an unusual gift for organizing and exploiting the self’s potentials, and when negative, a devastating sense of ineptitude and estrangement from reality.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-social-responsible.

Reba McEntire ~ Fancy

As fancy is to beauty, the thorn is to the rose.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, first appeared in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It didn’t appear in its current form in print until the 19th century, but in the meantime there were various written forms that expressed much the same thought. In 1588, the English dramatist John Lyly, in his Euphues and his England, wrote:

“…as neere is Fancie to Beautie, as the pricke to the Rose, as the stalke to the rynde, as the earth to the roote.”

Transcendence is not Fantasy

Wholeness requires both dark and light, for without either, there would not be the possibility of the other to be manifest. According to Marc Edmund Jones, “Living is real when it embraces the totality of its contact and the whole in its uttermost ramification of awareness. An entering of the transcendent achieves this because all things in their transcendence are sublimated in the fulfillment of self.”

Desideratum: Something that is wished for or considered desirable.

Aristotle explains, “We may assume the superiority [ceteris paribus] of all things being equal, of the demonstration which derives from fewer postulates or hypotheses—in short from fewer premises; for… given that all these are equally well known, where they are fewer, knowledge will be more speedily acquired, and that is a desideratum. The argument implied in our contention that demonstration from fewer assumptions is superior may be set out in universal form…”

Thus, in my reflections, I see the two men as the duality of that which the woman is able to now see in wholeness. She has this power to synthesize, the take duality and transcend it into a triad of awareness because in such an isolated situation–on a bit of land, in such close proximity and not scattered at a distance—as well as facing south, or towards the sun, astrologically speaking, she is able to keenly focus and assess with unsurpassable speed and accuracy. Here, wholeness is revealed fully to her view. Likewise, here on this degree of Inception, we have the potential to capture a more perfect view, from source to timeless opportunity.

Phase 113

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 23° Meeting of a literary society

This is a symbol of man’s resourcefulness in developing new areas of experience on the imaginative side, and of his genius for widening his interests and stimulating everybody to broader ideals and more rewarding goals in everyday living. The continual re-examination of a general intellectual and aesthetic inheritance becomes a heightening of personal identity, and the individual achieves a very genuine estimation of his fellows.

The keyword is CRITICISM

When positive, the degree is accomplishment through an exacting appreciation of common effort and a rigorous revelation of private acts and attitudes, and when negative, a substitution of idle discussion for actual participation in reality.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-social-receptive.

God speaks to Moses from the Burning Bush

The Element and the Essence of Fire

By all means, bring it to the meeting, just be sure how you use it! Fire, the element, can burn to ashes; Fire, the essence, can inspire and lift up… Tricky stuff, fire…. Think of it this way:

To consume by destructive or constructive means. To digest the inspiration and essence for upliftment or to spew forth the flames to burn to ashes? Therein lies the choice.

A meeting is a gathering or assembly for a common purpose. Yet, the keyword is criticism. Criticism, like fire, can be either constructive or destructive. Before attending the meeting, we might want to consider the potential outcome of both types…

Consume: To destroy or expend by use; use up. To eat or drink up; devour. To destroy, as by decomposition or burning: Fire consumed the forest. To spend (money, time, etc.) wastefully. To absorb; engross: consumed with curiosity. To undergo destruction; waste away. To use or use up consumer goods.

Digest: To convert (food) in the alimentary canal into absorbable form for assimilation into the system. To obtain information, ideas, or principles from; assimilate mentally. To arrange methodically in the mind; think over: to digest a plan. To bear with patience; endure. To arrange in convenient or methodical order; reduce to a system; classify. To condense, abridge, or summarize.

A Sacred Meeting

“And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.” Exodus 3:2 KJV

Here’s another example , this time of a meeting didn’t go so well….

The Library of Alexandria Burns: The Library of Alexandria was one of the largest and most significant libraries of the ancient world. Famous for having been burned, thus resulting in the loss of many scrolls and books, it has become a symbol of “knowledge and culture destroyed.” Although there is a tradition of the burning of the Library at Alexandria, the library may have suffered several fires or acts of destruction, of varying degrees, over many years. Different cultures may have blamed each other throughout history, or distanced their ancestors from responsibility, and therefore leaving conflicting and inconclusive fragments from ancient sources on the exact details of the destruction. Experts differ on when books in the actual library were destroyed. Manuscripts were probably burned in stages over eight centuries. Wikipedia

So, if you are called to a meeting, please make sure you inspire and lift up. Otherwise, if you get hot-tempered, hot-headed, ready to set a match to the place, please, bite your tongue, zip your lip, excuse yourself until you can regain composure. You aren’t a child. Besides, adults don’t let children play with matches. If this advice for good manners at meetings isn’t followed, the Universe will conspired to make you eat your words—like a flame—at the right time in the future. Justice must be fulfilled.

The Span of Ingenuousness

Phase 112

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 22° A woman awaiting a sailboat

This is a symbol of the creative poise and quiet range of perspective which give real power to the human soul, endowing it with its gift for sustained interest in the present situation and its constructive attitude towards each ramifying potentiality of things to be. Here man exalts his destiny as he is aware of the ships that may come in for him, and he learns that it is through the consummation of idea and not the pyramiding of facts that life achieves its more enduring reality.

The keyword is EQUANIMITY

When positive, the degree is a sure insight into the meaning of chance events and the current drift of circumstance, and when negative, senseless dependence on accidents of fortune.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-social-sensitive.

Eric Whitacre — Fly to Paradise

The Ugly Duckling (Danish: Den grimme ælling)

The Ugly Duckling is a literary fairy tale by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen (1805 – 1875). The story tells of a homely little bird born in a barnyard who suffers abuse from the others around him until, much to his delight (and to the surprise of others), he matures into a beautiful swan, the most beautiful bird of all. The story is beloved around the world as a tale about personal transformation for the better.

How did I get to this story of the ugly duckling from a woman awaiting a sailboat? One whose time seems to never come, answers/desires that seem never to manifest. Until they do. Patience is a virtue.

Time is too slow for those who wait,
too swift for those who fear,
too long for those who grieve,
too short for those who rejoice,
but for those who love, time is eternity.

The Span of Ingenuousness

Phase 111

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 21° A prima donna singing

This is a symbol of an inevitable culmination for individual opportunity, and of an enduring contribution of skill and talent to whatever may entertain the soul’s recurrent and constant rediscovery of itself. Here the popularization of human values becomes a creative encouragement for the common man, enabling him to lose himself for the moment and live vicariously in what he cannot yet establish for himself. Perfection is sought as a certainty of self-continuance.

The keyword is EXCELLENCE

When positive, the degree is an overflowing richness of self through its full command of its own deep and genuine potentials, and when negative, superficial self-affirmation and unseemly display.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-social-experimental.

Willie Nelson ~ Rainbow Connection

In Greek mythology, Echo (Greek: Ηχώ) was the personification of echo. According to Greek mythology Echo was a Nymph who had the job of talking incessantly to Hera, the Queen of the Gods, so that her husband, Zeus, would not get caught in his numerous affairs. Hera caught on to Echo’s trick and cursed her to only be able to say what others had just said — hence the word “echo”.

What song are we singing? Do we hear the sound of our own voice returning unto us, even as it goes forth into the world? It is not what goes into us, but what comes out of us that is the more important matter…and why we are singing that particular song! When Life sings back a sweet and edifying song, then we may find peace and assurance that the path we are on will bless all those within its reach.

Strive always for excellence!

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 20° Gondoliers in a serenade

This is a symbol of the ever-exuberant music of life itself, and is an emphasis on experience as a symphony of co-operative relationships. The divisions of labor which create a human society are here brought to high consummation in the expanding development of selfhood and its functions. The capacity of the individual spirit for participation in the basic stream of events is exalted momentarily in a contribution to the imagination and the hunger of the soul.

The keyword is SENTIMENT

When positive, the degree is a perfecting of those personal traits and inclinations which bring an enduring satisfaction to every immediate situation, and when negative, a retreat of self from all worth-while reality.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-physical-inspired.

Tennessee Whiskey ~ Chris Stapleton

Anaïs Nin said, “We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.” But did you know she also said, “I tell so many lies I have to write them down and keep them in the lie box so I can keep them straight.”

A box of lies, decorated very pretty and with a bow on top, like a gondolier serenading through murky, polluted waters—they all serve, that is, until they don’t. What’s “serenading” you, and keeping you from seeing things as they really are? Sooner or later the gondola will dock, and there you will be, left with all your illusions and your box of lies.

But, if aware that you indeed are crossing over polluted waters, and yet can hear the melody that brings balm to your weary soul–the sweet strains of the gondolier–well, you will be blessed. To do both without rocking the boat—maintaining your equilibrium over troubled waters. A master can hold two truths—a paradox—in his hands, allowing both to coexist, even while each travel on to their individual destinies—that is the way of self-mastery.

Phase 109

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 19° A priest performing a marriage ceremony

This is a symbol of the spiritual stewardship of man as expressed in his conscious concern for the integrity of human society and for the everyday institutions through which all racial ideals must have their continued embodiment. There are very full rewards awaiting the individual who is willing to live the life of his fellows through his consistent shaping of his own acts and opinions to dramatize the current aspirations of his kind. His service to the established rituals becomes a special self-fulfillment.

The keyword is CONFORMITY

When positive, the degree is a genius for bringing various facets of life into organic unity, and when negative, bondage to outer form.

The formula is: sustaining-critical-universal-generalizing-physical-responsible.

Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door

Think Alchemical Marriage, if you really want to understand the ideal of this symbol. Otherwise, imagine performing the joining of the perfect marriage of other (to himself/herself or one with other), of which there are so very few examples to which we could honestly point. But either way, turn your thoughts to your destiny—that to which they (within or without) are willing to seal themselves up to in this life (or other).

Do you understand? This is the role of the “priest”—the one authorized to perform this joining together that which is unable to then be separated asunder! Pause! Not the union, the UNIFIER!

For more in the priest role in its masculine nature, research the Comte de Gabalis.

For the priestess in its feminine nature, research the Magdalen in The Gospel of Mary or a modern channeling of Her in The Magdalen Manuscript

“DESTINY is a feeling you have that you know something about yourself nobody else does. The picture you have in your own mind of what you’re about WILL COME TRUE.
