Discovering a hidden you

First we learn the basics of how to enlist and practice those things which are fundamental for the development of the greater potential. Then, once we’ve learned enough—not perfect by any means—but “enough”—then we go out and begin sharing, demonstrating.

Our passions, whatever they might be, will be successfully integrated into our adult lives—becoming instructors or perhaps even becoming professionals ourselves.

We keep these passions alive in the community through teaching or participating. The point is that to potentialize and then actualize, to magnify our passions, we first must identify inclinations, discover our raw talent and our promising affinities. Then it is that we will find assistance. When the student is ready, the master appears.

After traveling the path of developing competency, achieved through a spirit of cooperation with those who can properly instruct us, then we are ready for real performance.

What was a passion now becomes a duty—an obligation—to share that which we’ve become with the world, for the benefit of the world.

The secret ingredient is to cooperate by accepting assistance. Only after mastering what is—under proper authority and guidance—only then can one individualize and interpret at a more highly-evolved, specialized level.

Have you seen the movie Now You See Me? It is the mind of a genius police detective, son of a master of illusion, at work—in dynamic intensity–to reveal the culprit of a crime committed years ago—the death of his own father–by utilizing a group of ingenious and diverse magicians.

I had a friend, a member of Mensa, the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world, who flouted his membership (self-magnanimity?) that placed distance between. Perhaps it was a self-protective device (to avoid intimacy?). Who knows! Regardless, his intelligence was to be admired. Rumor had it he was a softy in person, but at a distance, via email, his condescending nature frequently came through. Remember Virgo 4—Intimacy—the four ways of being? Unintelligent and unkind. Unintelligent and kind. Intelligent and unkind. Intelligent and kind. To some he revealed both sides–sometimes encouragement and discussion, other times condescension and derision—a personality like unto the police detective in Now You See Me! But alas, at the end of the movie he revealed his true self. And, he did so, at the carousel!

Remember the scramble to get to your favorite horse on the carousel? It doesn’t take much to hear the music playing either. This was the attraction that beyond all others simply had to be taken for a ride or the whole occasion would not feel complete. It opened the imagination the most, an immediate wormhole into a world of magic and fantasy.

The way I see it, there are four kinds of people, a mixture of levels of intelligence and kindness. If we just looked at the extremes, we would have:

3) INTELLIGENT—UNKIND

4) INTELLIGENT—KIND

If you are number 1, may you be blessed to find a way to understand that really, we all need to be non-judgmental, and, meanwhile, to be kind in spite of our biases and prejudices.

If you are number 2, thank you—thank you for showing us that loving-kindness is not dependent on “smarts” but “hearts”…
