What’s the Scuttlebutt?

Did any of you get coal in your stockings for Christmas? I’m asking seriously. No? Hmmm…. Did you deserve to get coal? Um, I see. Brings this scripture to mind:

Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

So then, what’s all the scuttlebutt about?

Scuttlebutt, the Water Cooler Talk of 19th Century Seafarers (Merriam-Webster def.)

When office workers catch up on the latest scuttlebutt around the water cooler, they are continuing a long-standing tradition that probably also occurred on the sailing ships of yore. .. In time, the term for the water source was also applied to the gossip and rumors generated around it, and the latest chatter has been called “scuttlebutt” ever since.

Then, just watch what happens next! Rumors are like that–everyone rushing in at once to add in or take away their two cents’ worth. My, we are all such a motley crew! But in the heart of hearts, what’s not to love! We are all so very human. In our hearts we all cherish those we’ve been given to love in this life–beyond any imperfections displayed at times. We are endowed with the gift of the Divine to see beneath the rough to the diamond. Flaws and all, we bring miracles to life because, at the end of all the fuss and feathers, we have the sense to follow our hearts. 

So, let’s take a peek at what’s really shining through today on NURTURE:

Visualize: MANDATE – A man shouting from the rooftops! (What would he be shouting?)

Objectify: RITUALIZATION – A kiss beneath the mistletoe! (Oh my! With whom, might I ask!)

Synchronize: RECOVERY – Radiant sunbeams break through a dark, cloudy sky! (Silver linings?!)

Actualize: RESPONSIVENESS – Look into the face of innocence. (Quick! Find a mirror!)

Some of the motley crew are about to witness first-hand just how quickly destiny can change when the heart is beating true. It just wouldn’t be right to tell their story’s ending, but here’s a hint: You do believe in magic, don’t you?

Things that provoke to anger so much so that we are willing to die to get even. We all have our triggers. There are times we all want to heap hot coals on some unjust situation. Sometimes on a person. CHILL OUT!

Don’t Shoot the Messenger!

Just walk away… It takes someone pretty damned special to be able to just walk away from a situation that has triggered him or her. Counting to ten, they say, will allow for the gap—the space—for rationality to have sway.

Eye for an Eye?

Tooth for a tooth? Is that what we’ve learned? We will be tested. We must be. We need to see what we’ve learned, what’s really sunk in, what’s taken hold at the deepest levels. We have the Goddess-given right to know where we stand with ourselves!

First Blood

My own definition of sacrifice is to give up something “good” for something “better”. That always requires walking away from the old thing causing reality to now be composed of only the new. What you focus on you keep alive. There must be a turning from one to the other. Not easy. Sacrifice never has been. It’s just an opportunity to change–your tune—tuning up, not down.

Giving Our Ideas Wings

If you have had a great idea and are going to put it out there—if you’re going to bring your epiphany to light–then let’s be sure your own personal stamp of approval is affixed to what takes wing! It is understood that you’ve had this great flash of inspiration in order to let it sing–we’re all here to let our light shine, not hide it under a bushel. And, I’m absolutely sure your gift will be joyful, vibrant and desirable.

That is the subject of today’s septenary–Establishment—setting the foundation of even greater things to come. This is a sacred endeavor to keep that brilliant idea of yours alive and flying. You are the head of household, the host/hostess, the honey-doer, the fine-tuner. You’ll be in charge of keeping an eye out for how to make things better along the way—R&D department–always looking to keep things orderly, up-to-date and functioning well.

Whoa! Hold up thee, Sonny!

Seriously—let’s take a look around this house full of flying things! Just imagine a zoo without custodial staff. Do you follow me? Fantastic to see and hear all those flyers, but, excuse me, who’s gonna clean up their mess! Sorry, but this simply must be discussed! Singing is nice, even critical to the success of your epiphany, but you’ve got to consider outcome. Hey! You’re the one feeding those birds of yours, and we know what’s bound to follow. Just look at them go… Er… Don’t look down! It’s messy down there!

What’s a Head of Household to Do?

Should you wait until everything is perfect—all holes plugged–before you let your ideas fly? Nonsense. Creativity is meant to be shared. You can’t fill a full cup, and yours is full to overflowing. We absolutely must fill and release, doing all that we can beforehand, of course, to ensure that our works of light and inspiration represent the best we have to offer at any given point in time. It’s just that we need to bring up the rear, too! Someone’s got to play Safety. Guess who?

Attention to Detail

A thought on throwing in the towel on the flash-of-light inspiration you’ve received from the Universe/your higher self. Of such sacrifices, God says that he spits them out, and that the smell of such incense is a stench to him. God does not want back that which has been given to our charge and care. He wants us to love those blessings of insight, nurture and care for them. So if there are droppings about, clean them up–regularly. Folks are coming to your place to hear your birds sing. Put out the welcome mat and throw open the doors. Just be sure the floors of the Establishment are nice and clean. So, don’t throw in the towel, grab it and start scrubbing!

No Doubt

You’ll make your home a place where all may come and feel welcome. It will be filled with all your favorite things, and when things drop, you’ll be there to clean them up, no doubt, whistling while you work!

Which one would you like to hear? What’s your Thirsty Top Ten countdown of memories of years before that refuse to die out? Back away from the embers, they will pop out and sting you, so be careful! Besides, there could be a stick or two of dynamite in there disguising themselves as logs! It’s so hard to tell–the corners of our minds can be so dark at times.

Blowing Your Mind for Clarity’s Sake

Go ahead, fan the flames if you dare. Make it right. Speak your truth. Let those sticks of dynamite turn everything into kindling wood. Light the fuse that’s been haunting you all this time. Fear has held you back. Let truth fly free. What’s left standing was always meant to stand. What doesn’t survive the blast? Those things were never meant to endure to begin with. It’s time to be thorough.

Then, Sweep Out All Those Ashes

None of us have ever committed a “new” sin. They’ve all been done before. Nothing unique about what you did or he did or she did. We’re all here on this planet Earth together. The lessons bind us together. We need to go through this sojourn in order for us to move ahead, individually and collectively. We are overcoming, at the most fundamental level, our animalistic and egoic natures. Lots of lessons about sex, loyalty, allegiance, ideals, power, greed, and on and on, round and round we go, learning here and there, with each relationship, more about ourselves. We all fall. Rising is a choice. Eventually we’ll learn what it was we wanted to learn. We’ll break the pattern hiding deep within our psyche. Only then can we sweep out the old and bring in the new.

This is a symbol of the irresistible impulse to action inherent in the very fact of conscious being, and of the powers of accomplishment brought to their personal focus as some pattern of motives takes form on the subjective side of things. Implicit in the symbolism is the ever-primitive nature of life at root, and the necessity that thoroughly practical and immediate considerations prevail whenever the inner or ideal ordering proves inadequate.

When positive, the degree is a capacity for aggressive leadership and an unusual effectiveness in sidetracking minor issues for the sake of major achievement, and when negative, unnecessary moods and tantrums.

Some know the magic of Christmas, in all its glory, and never lose sight of the wonders of it.

Others might have become cynical from the pummels and heart-torn passages through life itself and may well have lost the Christmas spirit. Like the previous degree’s music selection, they may ask, Where are you Christmas, why can’t I find you… Or, like Scrooge, may bah-humbug the entirety of the season. Worst of all is the Grinch, who goes even further in an attempt to sabotage the entire celebration.

Do you wonder why Christmas causes such a stir and why everyone feels so differently about it? So, tell me, what does Christmas mean to you? I ask rhetorically, of course! This is no time for a debate! You are right, whatever your answer, until it doesn’t sit right with you. Christmas, you see, is just one of those holidays that demands a personal relationship in regards to it. The world won’t let you off the hook—there’ll be shopping and advertising, decorations and cards, music and church services… Nothing can stop Christmas from coming. So then, we really should try and figure it out for ourselves.

Consider, if you will, what exactly Christmas means to you. Make a list. Check it twice. Listen to the carols. Enjoy the lights. Now listen to your heart. Instead of rocking the boat, sit and sway to the rhythm. Perhaps you will remember ideally or create or recreate, ideally, a Christmas that has special significance to you—a Christmas that will mobilize you to celebrate in just the right way—your way–and then others will look at you and exclaim, “What’s all the fuss about?!” And, I imagine, that when they ask, there will be a twinkle in your eye. Christmas, you see, is something you can’t tell others about—it’s something they must experience for themselves.

Life is found to be real and rewarding because it may be encountered in such infinite ramifications of itself.
