An Introduction to My Work

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to my work.

My work aligns with the 365-day calendar, not the 360-degree circle. In order to do this five additional days or spaces have been added to the wheel of 360 Sabian symbols. I call them the Days of the Divine Feminine. Yes, on Leap Year, there is an additional degree or spacing, which serves as Leap Day.

Thus, in my work, the heavens align in perfect order with the Earth and vice versa. For this reason, there are times when my work is ahead of the astrological sunrise degree and times when it is behind the sunrise degree and times when it is in alignment with the astrological degrees. You may have noticed this if you follow me and receive my daily blog notification emails. It is for those of you who have taken note of this that I am writing this explanation.

In astrological chart calculations using the 360-degree wheel, these five days are accounted for as “Holdover” and “Skipped” degrees to compensate for the difference between 360 and 365. Further, they are not the same every year! The Sabian Assembly invites you to download a free pdf Sabian Symbol sunrise chart for 2023. While there you might take a moment to read the explanation for these holdover and skipped degrees. In my work, there are no symbols skipped or held over, as each day has its own symbol. However, the dates on which these fall are matched into alignment with the calendar, the Earth’s orbit around the sun.

By the way, I am also an avid astrology student, and I am well-aware of the relationship and distinction between my work and astrological computations. I draw, study and read charts as do many of you, on a daily basis, and have done so for 17 years now. My work is not in opposition to astrology, but is my own creative alignment—an experiment, which I share with others and which is especially directed to non-astrologers. I understand and enjoy the benefits of both systems.

Where is this star pattern located, you might wonder. I placed one of the five points opposite the Galactic Center, which is at Sagittarius 28. It is the 3rd point of the star pattern. The placement for it is, therefore, between Gemini 28 and 29.

The five points I use are aligned with the seasons, given by Pythagoras as being five in number, not four. They are Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Terror Time or The Blackening. Here are the five dates and Days of the Divine Feminine, which are also found in my book On the Shoulders of Giants: Advanced Techniques in Sabian Symbology by Saijin:

1st Day of the Divine Feminine – The Blackening – between Aquarius 4 and 5 – January 24

2nd Day of the Divine Feminine – Spring – between Aries 16 and 17 – April 7

3rd Day of the Divine Feminine – Summer – between Gemini 28 and 29 – June 19

4th Day of the Divine Feminine – Autumn – between Virgo 10 and 11 – August 31

5th Day of the Divine Feminine – Winter – between Scorpio 22 and 23 – November 12

This is a symbol of the momentary background in human relations as essentially the product of current activities and attitudes, and of a determination to capitalize on any given situation through effective allegiances among the principal personalities involved. The emphasis here is on man’s desire for an inner circle of associates through whom he may exercise a real control over immediate eventualities, and on his realization that in this fashion he may monopolize the resources of his fellows.

The keyword is OPPORTUNITY.

When positive, the degree is a gift for clever planning and successful administration in every area of life, and when negative, rampant selfishness and rank exploitation of others.

Be sure to read the memo

You did, right? Ok, just making sure. I mean, times are pretty tough right now. Sometimes these memos slip through the cracks. Sometimes we miss an important message because we tend to focus on the negative. We do that–most of us… We tend to heap burning coals on our own backs for the most part. Why? Heck, I don’t know. Human nature, I guess. But the thing is, we also get to a point where we stop and ask, “What’s going on here! Is life really supposed to be so miserable?!” And that’s when we realize that it isn’t life that is miserable; it’s us—it’s how we are thinking about things. All is consciousness! And so, we then realize, we must be missing something.

Uncrumpled and for your eyes only

So, here it is. A friend passed it forward to me. I uncrumpled it for me–and for you–so we could see what the big secret is all about. Read it a few times. No, it doesn’t belong to someone else; it’s definitely for you. Me too. It’s ours. Please read. We’ve simply got to show up at the meeting with the right information beforehand–the stuff in the memo.

You’re invited!

I would recommend verification of who is sending the invite. Nowadays you never can tell. What with identify theft and scammers everywhere you turn. As the old adage says: If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Life is difficult, Scott M. Peck, says in the opening line of his book, The Road Less Traveled. And Sam Berns, as well as his parents, show us that invitations “to life” are not always a party in the making. They are a life in the making. And their advice is passion, commitment, dedication, perseverance, maturity, tenacity… So, check your own signature before you embark on life’s big party invitation. Be prepared.

On the other hand, if you can be fooled, then you need to be fooled. Why? Because no one gets off this planet without growing up. And, if at first you don’t succeed, then thanks to reincarnation, you can have as many go-rounds as you need. Take your time or get on with it.

Let’s make a deal

Here’s one that perhaps you can’t refuse. And if that’s the case, then go for it with gusto. Just keep in mind that if things don’t turn out the way you figured they would, then there’s a damned good lesson there to be learned. Learn it and then move on. To not do so will prolong the suffering and maybe even lead to insanity.

Once is enough

This isn’t an easy phase for any of us, but once you’ve been there and done it–if you are wise–it will have been enough to grasp the concept: You can’t get something from nothing.

His administration of human potentialities on this social level is his self-fulfillment.

Defies easy understanding

Today speaks of things that are difficult, but not impossible to measure—things that don’t defer to our normal methods of understanding or measuring them. Perhaps you have experienced this in astrology—some unlikely relationship that works well but defies the charts of the two involved. The synastry just isn’t there. Something else is, you just haven’t looked deeply enough. Today’s is for just such occasion–a community, diverse, and yet somehow or another, forming a cohesive group.

The Mandelbrot

Benoit B. Mandelbrot (20 November 1924 – 14 October 2010) was a Polish-born, French and American mathematician, noted for developing a “theory of roughness” and “self-similarity” in nature and the field of fractal geometry to help prove it, which included coining the word “fractal”. He later discovered the Mandelbrot set of intricate, never-ending fractal shapes, named in his honor.

Mandelbrot has been called a visionary and a maverick. His informal and passionate style of writing and his emphasis on visual and geometric intuition (supported by the inclusion of numerous illustrations) made The Fractal Geometry of Nature accessible to non-specialists. The book sparked widespread popular interest in fractals and contributed to chaos theory and other fields of science and mathematics.

The Theory of Roughness

Mandelbrot emphasized the use of fractals as realistic and useful models for describing many “rough” phenomena in the real world. He concluded that “real roughness is often fractal and can be measured.”

Mining our mountain: The mountain that we must conquer is the one inside of us—all of the baggage, psychological and emotional, which we have the divine opportunity to wade through, organize, analyze, embrace and release–shovelful by shovelful, we inspect for the gems that gives our own particular mountain its unfathomable worth. We cannot just shovel it away, we must mine it for its beauty. Of value in understanding would be a study of the actual mining process with its separation of tailings, the materials left over after the process of removing the valuable fraction from the uneconomic fraction or gangue of an ore.  These we may release, retaining the gems, and unburden ourselves. This is what perseverance is all about—climbing and mining our own mountains. But what’s it all about? Where does it really get us to undertake such self-labor? The short answer: You want to be happy!

Deep psychological mechanisms

Let’s devote ourselves to mining our mountains, mining our own worth out of the rich experiences that have become our lives. And let us assist others, when asked and as they may so desire of us, if we are able and have something to contribute. Let us participate in the process of happiness for one and for all. We are mankind, after all…. As John Wayne would recommend to us, those on such a devoted journey, Pilgrims! “Tomorrow hopes we have learned something from yesterday.”

Everyone is different. The purpose of being together is to share whatever it is that we are.

If I am the Smiley Guy, then I’m sharing “keep a cheerful attitude”.

If I am the Question Mark Girl, then I am sharing my “continuing quest for understanding”.

If I am the Sleepy Guy, then I am sharing “the need to rest and recuperate”.

So, if you resonate with this one or that one, engage with them—there is a value there calling to you that they possess. No shame! No blame! And if not, that is, if you simply and absolutely do not resonate with some or the other, then don’t go in there, and by all means, don’t invite them into your home! In fact, run as fast as you can in the opposite direction or quickly close the door and don’t look back!

A house is made to become a home. It is potential. Choose your friends and interact with your “family” wisely. You are building your reality. This is a symbol of the irrevocability of man’s obligation to the reality of which he is a part, with the emphasis on his accumulated knowledge or acquired skills as an indication of his enduring competency on the more immediate or practical side. Self-expression here is the use of various advantages and resources as actually a commerce in human potentialities, and this becomes an individual’s real service to his fellows. Eternal values are meaningless until they are woven into the fabric of humanity’s familiar transactions.

The keyword is CONSIGNMENT.

When positive, the degree is an effective employment of the facilities and goods of a modern society, and when negative, concern over trivialities.

Oriental carpets

How can they not be linked to the flying variety, to genies and magic lamps? Exquisite works of art. Always calling up the imagination and wonder. The patience involved! The skill! The craftsmanship! What do you think the most difficult part of weaving such a work of beauty might be? Is it as easy as rubbing the magic lamp? No, such folly! Of course, to create one of these beauties would require years of practice and patience.

I suspect today’s septenary has very much to do with what we really want in life or out of life. Something to do with purpose or some ultimate fulfillment that we sent ourselves here for. It definitely intimates our magic carpets—that which we came to make fly into higher dimensions of consciousness.

You aren’t just fooling around! You didn’t arrive here by accident! Imposters in the art of life are usually easily identified. They really aren’t fooling anyone but themselves. So, I know you—you’ll give me your best, and then you’ll get right back on the next installment—better and grander! So, leave what you’ve done here with me. I will place it. You will be rewarded at the right time and right place, but only on condition of you bringing me the next piece of art while you journey forward on your quest.

The continual effort of an idealistic leadership to hold social and political gains demands an exaltation of personal vision and character, and in the course of time every individual is brought to a broader understanding of his fellows. The goal of living becomes a preservation of values.

The keyword is RECOGNITION.

When positive, the degree is the social stewardship which demands a continual self-dedication, and when negative, strutting self-exploitation.

So, then, stop selling yourself short!

I know it’s a paradox—so then, you get TWO awards for bravery in war today. Begin by really understanding the symbology of the cat looking into the mirror and seeing the lion. What’s your mirror gonna say? Beautiful For Me by Nichole Nordeman provides a divine clue…. But, for God’s sake, don’t take it wrong, go overboard, and become some sort of man-eating lion! You are to be king of YOUR jungle, yes, but a terrorist out there among others?! No! No! A million times, No! Please, think Aslan or Simba becoming the new Lion King! But do remember who you are. You’re worth is within–within you and within your reality.

But, long story short, you didn’t really break any molds down here. Sorry, but you’re not that special. Neither am I or anyone else… Sorry, but we are quite normal, actually—mortals—human beings…. And, we did not reinvent the wheel with our own “darkness”…. We’re talking here about human imperfections. Sometimes the darkness is seen as good—rightfully so! How else could we see stars shine! Think Wonderful World!. So, yes, darkness can be wonderful, but now we look to darkness as our imperfections. And this message is directed towards those who would hold you bound to your imperfections for eternity, including most importantly, yourself!

Your smallness does not serve!

Simba hid, so did Elsa. Until they didn’t. So go on and get over yourself. Really. Seriously. Let out a roar and let all those low opinions of you go–no matter where they are coming from. Don’t get frozen in time just because you’ve got a few scrapes and bruises here and there. If you need another opinion, give it to yourself!

Who taught you about your worth/unworthiness, anyway?!

The absence of evidence is not the same as the evidence of absence. You just need to keep looking at yourself, into yourself, through yourself, beyond yourself…. There is a royal template upon which all of our smears, stains, and “unworthiness” appear. And those thoughts of unworthiness can be wiped clean. Just keep rubbing until your crown of thorns shows hints of a mane of gold. Don’t go too far though! Goodness, the last thing you need is a royal ego!

Ignorance is bliss, but let’s wise up!

Bliss is one extreme; misery, the other. Dare to be wise, begin, as Horace said. You are really quite normal! And that balance is the enduring and eternal quest we are on. So, rub your eyes or rub the mirror. Your worth is in your own hands. And for every effort you make in your own behalf, you are doubly-honored this day.

This is a symbol of the immediate opportunism by which the human will develops its real power, and of its underlying and uncompromising loyalty to the long-range ends in view. A realistic practicality is made effective through a self-disciplined grace of spirit, so that men are won over very often by the enemy they have defeated. The individual exalts his destiny as he finds its roots established in values accepted by his fellows as well as himself.

The keyword is EXPEDIENCY.

When positive, the degree is a genius for learning from experience and transforming setback into accomplishment, and when negative, irresponsible acceptance of the worst and insensibility to self-adequacy.

General Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia this afternoon on terms proposed by myself. The accompanying additional correspondence will show the conditions fully. U. S. Grant, Lieut.-General

When news of the surrender first reached our lines our men commenced firing a salute of a hundred guns in honor of the victory. I at once sent word, however, to have it stopped. The Confederates were now our prisoners, and we did not want to exult over their downfall.

I determined to return to Washington at once, with a view to putting a stop to the purchase of supplies, and what I now deemed other useless outlay of money. Before leaving, however, I thought I would like to see General Lee again; so next morning I rode out beyond our lines towards his headquarters, preceded by a bugler and a staff-officer carrying a white flag.

Lee soon mounted his horse, seeing who it was, and met me. We had there between the lines, sitting on horseback, a very pleasant conversation of over half an hour, in the course of which Lee said to me that the South was a big country and that we might have to march over it three or four times before the war entirely ended, but that we would now be able to do it as they could no longer resist us. He expressed it as his earnest hope, however, that we would not be called upon to cause more loss and sacrifice of life; but he could not foretell the result. I then suggested to General Lee that there was not a man in the Confederacy whose influence with the soldiery and the whole people was as great as his, and that if he would now advise the surrender of all armies I had no doubt his advice would be followed with alacrity. But Lee said, that he could not do that without consulting the President first. I knew there was no use to urge him to do anything against his ideas of what was right.

I was accompanied by my staff and other officers, some of whom seemed to have a great desire to go inside the Confederate lines. They finally asked permission of Lee to do so for the purpose of seeing some of their old army friends, and the permission was granted. They went over, had a very pleasant time with their old friends, and brought some of them back with them when they returned.

When Lee and I separated he went back to his lines and I returned to the house of Mr. McLean. Here the officers of both armies came in great numbers, and seemed to enjoy the meeting as much as though they had been friends separated for a long time while fighting battles under the same flag. For the time being it looked very much as if all thought of the war had escaped their minds. After an hour pleasantly passed in this way I set out on horseback, accompanied by my staff and a small escort, for Burkesville Junction, up to which point the railroad had by this time been repaired.
