An Introduction to My Work

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to my work.

My work aligns with the 365-day calendar, not the 360-degree circle. In order to do this five additional days or spaces have been added to the wheel of 360 Sabian symbols. I call them the Days of the Divine Feminine. Yes, on Leap Year, there is an additional degree or spacing, which serves as Leap Day.

Thus, in my work, the heavens align in perfect order with the Earth and vice versa. For this reason, there are times when my work is ahead of the astrological sunrise degree and times when it is behind the sunrise degree and times when it is in alignment with the astrological degrees. You may have noticed this if you follow me and receive my daily blog notification emails. It is for those of you who have taken note of this that I am writing this explanation.

In astrological chart calculations using the 360-degree wheel, these five days are accounted for as “Holdover” and “Skipped” degrees to compensate for the difference between 360 and 365. Further, they are not the same every year! The Sabian Assembly invites you to download a free pdf Sabian Symbol sunrise chart for 2023. While there you might take a moment to read the explanation for these holdover and skipped degrees. In my work, there are no symbols skipped or held over, as each day has its own symbol. However, the dates on which these fall are matched into alignment with the calendar, the Earth’s orbit around the sun.

By the way, I am also an avid astrology student, and I am well-aware of the relationship and distinction between my work and astrological computations. I draw, study and read charts as do many of you, on a daily basis, and have done so for 17 years now. My work is not in opposition to astrology, but is my own creative alignment—an experiment, which I share with others and which is especially directed to non-astrologers. I understand and enjoy the benefits of both systems.

Let’s continue.

Where is this star pattern located, you might wonder. I placed one of the five points opposite the Galactic Center, which is at Sagittarius 28. It is the 3rd point of the star pattern. The placement for it is, therefore, between Gemini 28 and 29.

The five points I use are aligned with the seasons, given by Pythagoras as being five in number, not four. They are Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Terror Time or The Blackening. More on that here: Pythagorean Pentacle: Organic Cycles. Here are the five dates and Days of the Divine Feminine, which are also found in my book On the Shoulders of Giants: Advanced Techniques in Sabian Symbology by Saijin:

1st Day of the Divine Feminine – The Blackening – between Aquarius 4 and 5 – January 24

2nd Day of the Divine Feminine – Spring – between Aries 16 and 17 – April 7

3rd Day of the Divine Feminine – Summer – between Gemini 28 and 29 – June 19

4th Day of the Divine Feminine – Autumn – between Virgo 10 and 11 – August 31

5th Day of the Divine Feminine – Winter – between Scorpio 22 and 23 – November 12

Scorpio 30° “I’m totally serious!”

The Span of Appreciation – The 2nd Hemisphere of Scorpio

Phase 240

Water Element – Fixed

The formula is: sustaining-ideal-universal-generalizing-spiritual-inspired.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Scorpio 30° The Halloween jester

This is a symbol of a proper informality in the release of the buoyant energies through which an individual gains refreshment, or is freed for the moment from life’s insistent demand on him that he live according to some ideal beyond his potentiality. The dignification of what often becomes an overbroad humor here serves its purpose by encouraging man to attempt new and various modes of contact with his fellows, and thus ultimately to achieve a more genuine spiritual sensitiveness.

The Keyword is SPONTANEOUSNESS.

When positive, the degree is a gift for making the desires and ambitions of self not only of interest but of actual value to others, and when negative, ineptness of self-expression and contempt for established values.

“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true. The other is to refuse to accept what is true.” Soren Kierkegaard

My own reflections on today’s symbol are revealed in its seven-fold geometric model. Think of this as a sort of trick-or-treat outing. If you’d like to meet the Jester in its sacred 7’ness, come right this way! What? You don’t know where to go? Oh, well here are your choices: Would you prefer to read about it? Fool Me Once, Fool Me Twice

Regarding “perspective”, Soren Kierkegaard said: “It does not depend, then, merely upon what one sees, but what one sees depends upon how one sees; all observation is not just a receiving, a discovering, but also a bringing forth, and insofar as it is that, how the observer himself is constituted is indeed decisive.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%B8ren_Kierkegaard

Scorpio 29° “We must work together now.”

The Span of Appreciation – The 2nd Hemisphere of Scorpio

Phase 239

Water Element – Fixed

The formula is: sustaining-ideal-universal-generalizing-spiritual-responsible.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Scorpio 29° An Indian squaw pleading to the chief for the lives of her children

This is a symbol of the stark sacrifices the self must make in the common interest and of the high responsibilities the group must accept for the welfare of each individual, as these factors together create a functioning society and enable man to control his everyday world. Here is emphasis on the give-and-take in human allegiances, and a call for a balancing of rights and wrongs as a result of direct experience with the problems of self-fulfillment.

The Keyword is EFFECTIVENESS.

When positive, the degree is personal accomplishment and satisfaction through an exceptional gift for holding first things first, and when negative, naïve willingness to truckle to others.

“The gift of melodrama.”⁣⁣⁣

The Span of Appreciation – The 2nd Hemisphere of Scorpio

Phase 238

Water Element – Fixed

The formula is: sustaining-ideal-universal-generalizing-spiritual-receptive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Scorpio 28° The king of the fairies approaching his domain

This is a symbol of the eternal promise underlying all inner self-realization, since any actual fullness of life is altogether independent of the passing state of affairs in a world of time and space. Implicit in the symbolism is the futility of man’s common reliance on people and things through some mere accident of contact. Outer reality takes the form with which he endows it as he exercises his sovereignty over its various potentials in the creative realms of his own imagination.

The Keyword is ALLEGIANCE.

When positive, the degree is a special competence of inward vision and a consequent outward perspective of high effectiveness, and when negative, capricious self-indulgence.

Melodrama

The Victorian stage melodrama featured six stock characters: the hero, the villain, the heroine, an aged parent, a sidekick and a servant of the aged parent engaged in a sensational plot featuring themes of love and murder.

Often the good, but not very clever hero, is duped by a scheming villain, who has eyes on the damsel in distress until fate intervenes at the end to ensure the triumph of good over evil. Wiki

The Little Prince

“Why was the desert so lovely before? Why was it lovely but not anymore? Water was hiding; no one could see. But now the water is hiding in me.” Lyrics, The Little Prince musical

What a precarious position to be in—to be one so young and yet to be called upon to be representative of a higher law. In humility the Little Prince obeyed his heart knowledge that it was time to go home; yet, he also had to buoy up the adult friend who could not understand this rite of passage being undertaken.

A snake bite! The Little Prince was going to allow a snake to be his vehicle of death? Surely this young man does not understand the danger! Surely, as an adult, there must be intervention made!

Do not come; do not watch. It will be too hard for you to bear. This is not your path; it is my own. I have a rose and I must return to care for her. You will be fine. Follow your path. And when you look out upon the vastness of the heavens, then know—know most assuredly!—that there I will be tending to my rose. And I shall be happy. And you shall know me by my laughter. So, please, go and tend to your happiness. I long to hear your laughter, too.

Scorpio 27° “Getting choked up over it?”

The Span of Appreciation – The 2nd Hemisphere of Scorpio

Phase 237

Water Element – Fixed

The formula is: sustaining-ideal-universal-generalizing-spiritual-sensitive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Scorpio 27° A military band on the march

This is a symbol of the human spirit’s continual desire to avoid everyday trivialities and drabness, ever pressing on toward some goal which can become a basis for a more enduring and individual reality. The blare of self-affirmation is a rejection of the lesser experience which brings only a self-satiety, and its martial nature arises from the realization that things of worth must be gained at the price of a thoroughly self-mobilized effort.

The Keyword is INTREPIDITY.

When positive, the degree is a dramatic capacity for drawing events to a focus and directing their course successfully to what might have seemed impossible ends, and when negative, foolhardy self-exploitation.

“Many a true word is spoken in jest.” Geoffrey Chaucer

Guilty as Charged

The value of guilt? A little goes a long way. Most of it needs to be chucked, but for that morsel that won’t dissolve you’ve got your work cut out for you. Time to take the pose of the Hanged Man because a lot of considering and reflecting will need to be done before you earn the right to march with intrepidity!

Self-punishment vs. Self-catharsis

If the guilt you keep chewing on and refuse to swallow is the result of someone else’s opinion of you and not your own, then here is the call to self-catharsis and the cutting of the cord of reliance on others for your self-estimation. But if there is consensus, i.e., if you are not pleased with your own behavior, and if a friend is trying to support you in change, then perhaps the two should stay connected as long as healing is taking place, until you can stand again on your own, confidently and with a clear conscience.

Don’t punish yourself! Your quest for change and transformation cannot be complete until you severe the destructive cords of the past—those haunting ties that bind—they are in our heads more than in the world about us. The only thing you take with you when you go will again return with you again as unfinished business. So, mind your business, and mind it now. Deal with your ghosts and demons of the past now, intrepidly, while you still draw breath!

So, what’s on your mind, mummy? Why do you laugh?

“The art of alchemy is simply changing one form into another. Most people think of alchemy as a medieval obsession for changing lead into gold. And while this is one form of alchemy, anything that causes a change in form is alchemy as well. Turning water into steam is alchemy. Changing a dry tea bag into tea is also alchemy.”⁣

The Span of Appreciation – The 2nd Hemisphere of Scorpio

Phase 235

Water Element – Fixed

The formula is: sustaining-ideal-universal-generalizing-social-inspired.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Scorpio 25° An X ray

This is a symbol of man’s organic integrity, or of the unvarying structures of nature on which all intelligence depends. There is here an emphasis on the wellbeing of each individual as a foundation for his self-realization in the world he shares with his fellows, and on his responsibility to keep himself fit for the performance of his part in the common functioning. He recognizes himself as the measure of all effective reality, and sees everything around him as a continual revelation or validation of his own capacity.

The Keyword is INVESTIGATION.

When positive, the degree is an exceptional power of analysis, and when negative, uncritical oversensitiveness to both the condition of self and the state of society.

Operation ~ pulling a ___________ out of a ___________ https://youtu.be/qWwC_BGbWe4

Begin with the Basics: Frame your question with great care. Identify your partiality and separate from it. Strive for as much objectivity as possible. Create a space for that.

Consider, Keep or Discard: Observe and witness. Document and review. Fine tune these for further processes.

Test, Conclude: Determine how to test and try these observations. What would they tell you? Let them speak for themselves. Keep you/yourself out of it. Run a clean procedure. Let the facts come out.

Add To/Remove From: Conclusions will be what you decide to include or not include. Watch your proclivities and try not to be prejudiced. There will be an answer, untainted, insomuch as you set yourself apart—either with bearers of the truth or with false witnesses.

You alone can decide. Now, go and do–with all that you have acquired–as you please.

As pure and unblemished as you have allowed your conclusions to be, they are now fit to serve you through application. Like a perfect ointment, a balm, or a remedy. You, the doctor of alchemy, have created a new elixir for your life—or a new poison…

Either way, you’ll know soon enough through the fruits of your choice. If worst comes to worse, then it’s back to the drawing board to try a new operation. Please, just try and stay out of your own way.

The Span of Appreciation – The 2nd Hemisphere of Scorpio

Phase 234

Water Element – Fixed

The formula is: sustaining-ideal-universal-generalizing-social-responsible.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Scorpio 24° Crowds coming down the mountain to listen to one man

This is a symbol of recognition for intellectual attainment, and of the supremacy of spiritual over other and more tangible forms of authority among men. There is here an emphasis on the fact that any higher realization must be brought to earth both for its initial confirmation and its ultimate sharing among the many, and that aspiration is meaningless until it achieves some practical focus in those realms and events with which people in general are familiar.

The Keyword is APPEAL.

When positive, the degree is an almost spectacular ability to enlist the higher potentialities of everyone for some practical need of the moment, and when negative, indiscriminate and carefree gullibility.

The Hierophant

The High Priest or Hierophant, called also Spiritual Father… He is the ruling power of external religion. The Hierophant is the power of the keys, exoteric orthodox doctrine, and the outer side of the life which leads to the doctrine.

Channel of Grace

He is rather the summa totius theologiæ, when it has passed into the utmost rigidity of expression. He symbolizes also all things that are righteous and sacred on the manifest side. He is the channel of grace belonging to the world of institution as distinct from that of Nature. He is the leader of salvation for the human race at large. He is the order and the head of the recognized hierarchy, which is the reflection of another and greater hierarchic order. He, perhaps, forgets the significance of this–his symbolic state–and acts as if he contained within his proper measures all that his sign signifies or his symbol seeks to shew forth.

Let Us Go Down

May we never forget our own symbolism and begin to think that we are that power which, in fact, we have only been given the temporal opportunity to use in this life time for service to all—a mere reflection of the higher power. Yet, let us not shy away from our challenge either! To use our inherited and bestowed power with wisdom. This is the Challenge of the Hierophant.

Scorpio 23The Span of Appreciation – The 2nd Hemisphere of Scorpio

Phase 233

Water Element – Fixed

The formula is: sustaining-ideal-universal-generalizing-social-receptive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Scorpio 23° A bunny metamorphosed into a fairy

This is a symbol of the inner or creative values of everyday living, and of the personal or more dynamic meanings with which man may endow the least of the things around him. Implicit in the symbolism is the kaleidoscopic capacity of his imagination, or the extent to which he may mold and remold the everyday reality with which he deals. Here is poetry of soul as it mirrors each person’s ongoing achievement in character and skills.

The Keyword is TRANSITION.

When positive, the degree is the thorough self-conquest by which an individual subordinates his naïve and animal impulses to his ideals and aspirations, and when negative, undisciplined escapism and complete distortion of attitude.

“It Came to Pass”…

You’ve heard it said in various ways, but it all boils down to change, the only constant.

“It Will Be Alright”….

You’ve heard this before, too, but maybe didn’t believe it at the moment.

Oh My! The temper tantrums—the kicking and the screaming opted for instead of trusting the above!

But whether displayed by two-year olds or by those years beyond excuse, these include the ones we love–the ones we’d die for–and so we just keep on encouraging, “It has come to pass! It will be okay! Everything can change on a dime! Just wait, you’ll see!”

The Face of Change

Come let us reason together. If the only guarantee is change, and if it’s all going to be alright, then why go from here to there kicking and screaming? It is rather curious, is it not, that after all these years, and after all of our experiences, we still get upset thinking things are stuck forever in the here and now. We know better! We do! So, let’s begin demonstrating that!

No, you don’t have to live up to my expectations for me to love you, nor does my love for you require that I lower my standards either. Yet, in the midst of such a challenge to love is the greater opportunity for true self-mastery, i.e., to change–to transition–to that which is a higher form of love, even unconditional love, agape.

Talk about being on the brink of change where things turn on a dime! Talk about being alright! Now that’s something to jump up and down about–something to jump for joy over! See? I told you!
