Capricorn 18° “Identify your ideal.”

The Span of Dependence – The 2nd Hemisphere of Capricorn

Phase 288

Earth Element – Cardinal

The formula is: sustaining-critical-efficient-generalizing-physical-receptive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Capricorn 18° The Union Jack

This is a symbol of the maximum protection which life at large will provide for the individual in general, here given emphasis on the social or political side. There are always high rewards for common effort, since the organized nation is able to bring benefits to man beyond anything any person or group could ever win in a lesser dimension of enterprise. A greater community of interest is exalted through every possible phase of normal and everyday being.

The keyword is SUPERVISION.

When positive, the degree is the self’s ever-widening spread of interest in its insatiable desire to leave some permanent imprint of itself on everything it touches, and when negative, smug or strong-armed paternalism.

Quite maddening, really

Alice in Wonderland – Alice slays the Jabberwocky

“So, a little bit of light in dark and a little bit of dark in light. It’s all really quite maddening, isn’t it? Until it isn’t. Oh, don’t you see? It’s not about out there, but in here. Come! Come in here and see it from the inside out, not the outside in. Or would that work as well?! I think it just might! Brilliant! What brilliance!”

Perfect circumstances

Not what is happening, but rather who you are while it is all happening. Look back! The last two days—naked in the showers of ridicule then bathing nude like nobody’s business! LOL! Don’t you see? You do see, don’t you?

Oh come now

It’s really all a silly game! We just wanted to see who you were when you got yourself all together again. Union, you see! Union! Getting yourself together….Super Vision!

Slay the Jabberwocky

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

‘Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!’

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought —
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood a while in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One two! One two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

‘And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!’
He chortled in his joy.

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Capricorn 17° “Jumping in over your head?”

The Span of Dependence – The 2nd Hemisphere of Capricorn

Phase 287

Earth Element – Cardinal

The formula is: sustaining-critical-efficient-generalizing-physical-sensitive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Capricorn 17° A girl surreptitiously bathing in the nude

This is a symbol of the irresistible desire of all life to strip back to essentials, and to gain self-renewal by some immediate and close intimacy with the accepted roots of all-being. Implicit in the symbolism is the spiritual significance of the human body as a temple of the spirit, or as the archetype representing the total potentiality in a personal existence. Here is successful resort to self-sacrifice or psychological renunciation in order to achieve a new dimension of conscious reality.

The keyword is IMMERSION.

When positive, the degree is a highly effective dramatization of the basic characteristics and potentials of self, and when negative, furtiveness or eccentricity.

Just how far are you willing to go?

Sign up for classes to find out here! Welcome to the School of Hard Knocks. Your first class will be “Look before you Leap”. Then on to “Don’t cut off your Nose to spite your Face.” We’ll finish the first trio with “Walk before You Run.”

What you don’t know won’t hurt you

Well, there’s the catch. Yes it will. Every time it will be knowledge gained at a high price. Besides, we’ve already been hurt, you see.

No pain, no gain

Yesterday was about all those deep hidden insecurities we bring forward into adulthood from our childhoods. Those terrifying days of peer scorn and bullying. Perhaps we were the bully or the scorner! Let us hope not. Either way, however, conscience and/or self-consciousness is on the table today. Here we are dealing with the other extreme—the opposite reaction.

All things in moderation

Don’t be so extreme! Settle down. Today can be provocative or provoking. Sure the little miss has every right to be bathing in the nude, but she’s chosen to do it “surreptitiously.” That means stealthily and with skill. What’s going on in that mind of hers?

Is she up to no good?

She’s hoping to be seen but acting as if she’s not. She’s playing coy. You can bet she’s blushing and batting her eye lashes. To be seen but not seen? This is no regular little miss. She’s got an agenda and she’s working it. Consider that as you consider just how far are you willing to go to get what you want. Are you….

Capricorn 16° “Give it everything you’ve got.”

The Span of Dependence – The 2nd Hemisphere of Capricorn

Phase 286

Earth Element – Cardinal

The formula is: sustaining-critical-efficient-generalizing-physical-experimental.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Capricorn 16° Boys and girls in gymnasium suits

This is a symbol of practical experience as at root a matter of developing self-competency, and of life as a never-ending adjustment of ideals and motives to the everyday potentials of human society. The individual is called on to co-operate in a continual estimation and re-estimation of his powers and capacities by his fellows, and to bring an aliveness of interest to everything in which he would participate. A disciplined self-responsibility is demanded for a common achievement.

The keyword is ANIMATION.

When positive, the degree is an effective appreciation of joint action and a high skill in supervising group effort, and when negative, self-betrayal through unimaginative conventionality.

The Cave – Mumford and Sons

You Go First

Anyone here have fond memories of gym class? How about the showers afterwards? Anyone? Anyone? I’m thinking not so much…  But that’s because, for me, those memories stir up emotions. That’s today’s keyword, by the way: ANIMATION. To stir things up. So, if the shoe fits…. Here is the primal stirring from within. We become animated and excited. Buttons, deep down inside, can be pushed. Our muscles are about to be put to the test.

Irony in the Gym

The word itself, “Gymnasium” is Latin; from Greek gymnasion, being derived from Greek gymnos, meaning “naked”! But here they are—girls and boys suited up! What lurks beneath the surface is the idea of peer pressure, competition, ostracism, and god-forbid, ridicule and bullying. Unfortunately, humanity has retained this drawing out and public display of that which lies beneath our insecurities and our fears of inadequacy. Let’s dive deeper, though…

History in the raw

The Greeks: In Hellenistic times, Greek-speaking Jews would sometimes take part in athletic exercises. They were then exposed to ridicule because they were circumcised — a national and religious custom which was unknown in the Greek tradition. In fact the Greek athletes, even though naked, seem to have made a point of avoiding exposure of their glans, for example by infibulation, tying a bit of string (kynodesme) around their foreskin. In Roman-occupied Jerusalem, Jews using the gymnasium would wear prosthetic foreskins made from sheep gut in order to avoid ridicule for being circumcised. (Think about things still stuffed into pants or bras–see what I mean?!)

The Romans: …To appear nude in public was considered disgusting except in appropriate places and context: the public baths (originally open to both sexes) and even public latrines were as popular meeting places for all as the forum. (Maybe hum a little tune: Here we go again…)

Growing Insecurities

Born into varying degrees of dysfunction imposed upon us by familial and socio-cultural values—the hype of the media—the unspoken class system by how much dear old dad and mom earn and whether or not we’re wearing last year’s fashions, and just how we measure up compared to those who have preceded us in the stages of puberty—the almighty initiation into adulthood–we all go through the resultant insecurities when we are thrown into public places where the physical being meets with competition and judgment.

Collective Karmic Confrontation

You may well feel that this is all about you—that you are the only one suffering. Not so! Today is about us—all of us! Don’t be blinded! Look around you! Count the suffering ones! Can’t see them? Remove your self-consciousness and insecurities for just a minute! Lose the personal perspective. Do you see her–really see her? She’s almost ready to cry! See him–really see him? His stooped shoulders, his downward gaze betray his self-loathing! Does this surprise you? Seriously, does it? It shouldn’t. We are not the only ones? We all have known such feelings. And here we all are, bumping into one another, causing on-going pain and suffering. Why? Because we failed to look to our own self-love, self-honor, self-respect and self-appreciation first. We cannot give love and appreciation away until we possess it first ourselves.

Team Spirit Shout Out

Now, do you also remember the one in gym class who supported you, who chose you to be on their team, who always had a word of encouragement even in the worst of times—when you fell during a race, dropped a baton, slipped from the balance beam, missed the shot, struck out? Eyes on that leader! Now be one!

Stand up!

Stand out!

We need you. We need you desperately. You have come to serve the collective.

Are you ready?

Time to get animated!

Capricorn 15° “The conscience will show the way.”

The Span of Illusiveness – The 1st Hemisphere of Capricorn

Phase 285

Earth Element – Cardinal

The formula is: sustaining-critical-efficient-specializing-spiritual-inspired.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Capricorn 15° Many toys in the children’s ward of a hospital

This is a symbol of the inescapable richness of life in any normal manifestation of itself, here given emphasis through its ample rewards on the social and ideal side. There are physical and psychological limitations which come to all humankind without apparent reason, and which often seem a travesty of divine justice, but they are always an unrealized opportunity for a deeper fellowship. Experience is real in its fruits, rather than in the means to its ends.

The keyword is ABUNDANCE.

When positive, the degree is man’s ability to develop the real potentialities of himself and his fellows despite every transient accident of circumstance, and when negative, hypocritical sympathy and childish self-pampering.

Every rose has a thorn

An ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure. That is true. The Little Prince did not leave his rose unattended. He knew it had thorns; it was the adult that informed him that thorns are not enough. We do need to protect self and others, but only in appropriate measure. The measuring rod of growth. Will my protection defend the unprotected and vulnerable parts or will my protection prevent needed growth. That is the question to ask. Listen wisely for the answer from within. Then follow your own divine advice, no matter how difficult that may be.

Those mountains!

Looking back, ask yourself, did I conquer my mountain or did my mountain conquer me. Be a conqueror! Yes, do put your best foot forward. Give it up, no matter what it is. Don’t give up, but give it up. …the resistance to whatever it is your conscience is asking of you. Just do it. No, it will not be easy. Nothing that is worth it ever is. Free yourself from the cycle. Go and don’t look back.

That which you resist persists

Loving yourself and loving others will never be wrong. Never. Don’t let anyone–not even an adult–tell you differently.

The Span of Illusiveness – The 1st Hemisphere of Capricorn

Phase 284

Earth Element – Cardinal

The formula is: sustaining-critical-efficient-specializing-spiritual-responsible.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Capricorn 14° An ancient bas-relief carved in granite

This is a symbol of the immeasurable potentiality of the present moment as a recurrent manifestation of all that ever has been or that ever can be, and of the ability of man to capitalize on opportunities thus brought to focus in himself and his world at large again and again. Here is an absoluteness of self as it proceeds to express itself with a true conviction, and a completeness of its achievement as it acts with the over-all perspective of which it is capable.

The keyword is FOUNDATION.

When positive, the degree is a gift for bringing all things into a pattern of convenience and thereupon precipitating an inevitability of desired results, and when negative, meaningless limitation.

Vastness

There is here established that vehicular prototype for the building of a life—for good or for ill.

“Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts. All depends on the principles which direct them.” Napoleon Bonaparte

The Span of Illusiveness – The 1st Hemisphere of Capricorn

Phase 283

Earth Element – Cardinal

The formula is: sustaining-critical-efficient-specializing-spiritual-receptive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Capricorn 13° A fire worshiper

This is a symbol of man’s inner strength through his realization of an inviolable tie with the creative power of the universe itself, dramatized by his continual outreach to the divine in a spiritualizing of his aspiration and a dedication of his talents and possessions to the over-all reality. He knows he must demonstrate his ultimate independence of his circumstances or else surrender his own potentialities forever. Here is ideality brought to the point of miracle.

The keyword is MAGIC.

When positive, the degree is extraordinary skill in enlisting every resource of the world for the exaltation of self and the consummation of its ambitions, and when negative, consistent overestimation of personal capacity.

Can’t stop me now!

When you hear your own fire burning the decree, “Lead, follow or get out of the way!” Know that your divinity has spoken. You are welcome to go ‘round the block as many times as you please. But doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? Seriously? You are too smart for that.

Let’s take a peek inside!

Oh how the world would tempt us to look outside for our understanding and conception of self-worth! Fools, the lot of us, if we buy off on that. And give them one chance to rob you of that precious burning gem within, and they will take it all…or at least will keep trying. Therefore, guard your holy self! You ARE the treasure!

Where the fire burns!

There is a symbol called The Helm of Asgaard which speaks to this burning within. It is our core. Let this mighty symbolism speak to that divinity within you and guard it evermore:

The Helm of Awe
I wore before the sons of men
In defense of my treasure;
Amongst all, I alone was strong,
I thought to myself,
For I found no power a match for my own.

Take it to the limit!

Be daring, but wise. Be humble, but brave. You are under construction, a work in progress. You are not finished with you yet, nor will you ever be. Sideways or up, let this be your motto. Onward, ever onward.

The Span of Illusiveness – The 1st Hemisphere of Capricorn

Phase 282

Earth Element – Cardinal

The formula is: sustaining-critical-efficient-specializing-spiritual-sensitive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Capricorn 12° A student of nature lecturing

This is a symbol of the wide ramification in experience by which man achieves his greater opportunities, emphasized on the vicarious or intellectual side as he participates in events and shares meanings through the mind’s eye alone. Here is direct fulfillment in consciousness. Life gains its illimitability as the individual discovers that he can master its endless facets through ever-expanding facilities of the reason.

The keyword is EXPLANATION.

When positive, the degree is self-confidence through the acquisition of knowledge and effective self-direction through the practical application of all values, and when negative, psychological smugness and an unreasonable pride of intellect.

Con Templo

Why do we contemplate? Why do we look into the mirror? What are considering? Are we looking for an explanation and understanding for what we see there, what we are thinking about what we see? Today, the first day of the annual cycle, is a STUDENT of nature lecturing. Not a professor! Not an expert! This is about learning and being able to deliver what we have realized in our study…of ourselves, of our own nature, of what and who we see standing before us in the mirror. Are we young at heart? No matter the number of revolutions around the sun, let us be eternally young—and a student lecturing—from the heart!

Lucid Theory

“Think about your body. What a wonderful home our souls have! Notice how it endures things your heart has long given up upon. What do you do for it? You don’t have to eradicate every piece of cake or workout 24/7 to pay it back. Sleep a lot. Sleep at noon, in the afternoon, at night, sleep in the morning if you can. If you can’t live without your daily piece of chocolate, there’s no need to. If you want a strong, healthy, fit body you can have it. Go buy yourself a nice yoga mat, sexy workout clothes, the Free Runs you feel guilty of liking. Self-misery doesn’t contribute anything to attaining it. Acting out does. Take care of your spirit too. Meditate often. Light a lot of candles. They make everything seem softer and calmer. Pour your thoughts into something constructive. Write every day. Write poems and grocery lists and stories, document your every day. When you’re 16 or 17, not a single thing of what you do seems magnificent but when you become 25 and you feel lost within yourself, these memories will bring you back.” McCall Rollins

Hi, Peter!

I look in the mirror and who do I see,
Demon or angel staring at me?
The good and the bad, the right and the wrong
Connected together, where they belong.

For the battle is mine to fight to the end
Not to win or to lose, but to come out shaking hands.
Both sides share in common this body of flesh
Both share the same footsteps and face the same tests.

So the struggle lies not in which one will decide
But that both learn the art of true compromise
To accept and forgive, to learn and to grow
To look back in the mirror and see myself whole.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Capricorn 11° A large group of pheasants

This is a symbol of the social ritualization by which man’s everyday personality is able to maintain and refine its particular characteristics, and of the common expression of self through which life endows each individual with his fundamental inner certainty and his convenient outer reality. Here is an emphasis on the reduplications and multiplications of every facet of existence, so that the continuous variations come to dramatize an infinite potential inherent in the whole.

The keyword is ILLIMITABILITY.

When positive, the degree is a tireless pursuit of every personal aspiration, and when negative, egotistic satisfaction in matching the mediocrity of others.

Got it together now? Whaddya think? Like what you see? My God! Who is that staring back? Grab your paintbrush! Apply another layer of oils. Let it dry. This is a symbol of man’s basic self-justification on the practical or commonplace side, and of his complete dependence on the co-operation of the world at large for any actuality of personal experience. He must ever take the initiative in meeting the needs of others if he is to expect them to stir appreciably and similarly in his own behalf. If he reaps in life he must sow abundantly, and he establishes himself as he expends himself and thereby encourages his fellows to do the same.

The keyword is NURTURE.

When positive, the degree is unusual success in dramatizing the potentialities of human nature and its ramifying achievements, and when negative, overconcern with side issues.

What’s the Scuttlebutt?

Did any of you get coal in your stockings for Christmas? I’m asking seriously. No? Hmmm…. Did you deserve to get coal? Um, I see. Brings this scripture to mind:

Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

So then, what’s all the scuttlebutt about?

Scuttlebutt, the Water Cooler Talk of 19th Century Seafarers (Merriam-Webster def.)

When office workers catch up on the latest scuttlebutt around the water cooler, they are continuing a long-standing tradition that probably also occurred on the sailing ships of yore. .. In time, the term for the water source was also applied to the gossip and rumors generated around it, and the latest chatter has been called “scuttlebutt” ever since.

Then, just watch what happens next! Rumors are like that–everyone rushing in at once to add in or take away their two cents’ worth. My, we are all such a motley crew! But in the heart of hearts, what’s not to love! We are all so very human. In our hearts we all cherish those we’ve been given to love in this life–beyond any imperfections displayed at times. We are endowed with the gift of the Divine to see beneath the rough to the diamond. Flaws and all, we bring miracles to life because, at the end of all the fuss and feathers, we have the sense to follow our hearts.

So, let’s take a peek at what’s really shining through today on NURTURE:

Visualize: MANDATE – A man shouting from the rooftops! (What would he be shouting?)

Objectify: RITUALIZATION – A kiss beneath the mistletoe! (Oh my! With whom, might I ask!)

Synchronize: RECOVERY – Radiant sunbeams break through a dark, cloudy sky! (Silver linings?!)

Actualize: RESPONSIVENESS – Look into the face of innocence. (Quick! Find a mirror!)

Some of the motley crew are about to witness first-hand just how quickly destiny can change when the heart is beating true. It just wouldn’t be right to tell their story’s ending, but here’s a hint: You do believe in magic, don’t you?

My grandson asked his mom, “Mom, is this magic?” His mom answered, “Everything is magic. You’re going to have to be more specific.”

So, you see this story is far from ending. In fact, it’s just about to start all over again. T-1 and Counting to the New Year!

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Capricorn 8° Birds in the house singing happily

This is a symbol of the descent of spirit or intelligence into every last ramification of everyday reality, and of man’s self-fulfillment as he is successful in shaping circumstances or precipitating events so that they become the ultimate and outward revelation of that higher vision by which he continues to be himself at core. Here is the actual and impregnable independence of the individual, evident as at length he is able to make his world his own and call on all to share it with him.

The keyword is ESTABLISHMENT.

When positive, the degree is an insatiable urge to put everything to use and to employ every least talent of self, and when negative, idle narcissism.

Giving Our Ideas Wings

If you have had a great idea and are going to put it out there—if you’re going to bring your epiphany to light–then let’s be sure your own personal stamp of approval is affixed to what takes wing! It is understood that you’ve had this great flash of inspiration in order to let it sing–we’re all here to let our light shine, not hide it under a bushel. And, I’m absolutely sure your gift will be joyful, vibrant and desirable.

That is the subject of today’s septenary–Establishment—setting the foundation of even greater things to come. This is a sacred endeavor to keep that brilliant idea of yours alive and flying. You are the head of household, the host/hostess, the honey-doer, the fine-tuner. You’ll be in charge of keeping an eye out for how to make things better along the way—R&D department–always looking to keep things orderly, up-to-date and functioning well.

Whoa! Hold up thee, Sonny!

Seriously—let’s take a look around this house full of flying things! Just imagine a zoo without custodial staff. Do you follow me? Fantastic to see and hear all those flyers, but, excuse me, who’s gonna clean up their mess! Sorry, but this simply must be discussed! Singing is nice, even critical to the success of your epiphany, but you’ve got to consider outcome. Hey! You’re the one feeding those birds of yours, and we know what’s bound to follow. Just look at them go… Er… Don’t look down! It’s messy down there!

What’s a Head of Household to Do?

Should you wait until everything is perfect—all holes plugged–before you let your ideas fly? Nonsense. Creativity is meant to be shared. You can’t fill a full cup, and yours is full to overflowing. We absolutely must fill and release, doing all that we can beforehand, of course, to ensure that our works of light and inspiration represent the best we have to offer at any given point in time. It’s just that we need to bring up the rear, too! Someone’s got to play Safety. Guess who?

Attention to Detail

A thought on throwing in the towel on the flash-of-light inspiration you’ve received from the Universe/your higher self. Of such sacrifices, God says that he spits them out, and that the smell of such incense is a stench to him. God does not want back that which has been given to our charge and care. He wants us to love those blessings of insight, nurture and care for them. So if there are droppings about, clean them up–regularly. Folks are coming to your place to hear your birds sing. Put out the welcome mat and throw open the doors. Just be sure the floors of the Establishment are nice and clean. So, don’t throw in the towel, grab it and start scrubbing!

No Doubt

You’ll make your home a place where all may come and feel welcome. It will be filled with all your favorite things, and when things drop, you’ll be there to clean them up, no doubt, whistling while you work!
