The Span of Protection – The 2nd Hemisphere of Pisces

Phase 357

Water Element – Common or Mutable

The formula is: sustaining-practical-universal-generalizing-spiritual-sensitive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Pisces 27° A harvest moon

This is a symbol of life’s moments of culmination as the threshold of new achievement rather than as any canceling out of experience in the given aspect, and it emphasizes the fact that nature in her immeasurable prodigality is forever showering man with the products of her untiring creativeness. She is saying to him that his productivity is as rich as hers, and that the highly concentrated resources of the world are at the immediate service of anyone who will put them to use and so facilitate their replacement.

The keyword is BENEDICTION.

When positive, the degree is consistent effectiveness in dramatizing personal potentials, and when negative, loss of all opportunity by timid action.

The Spirit of Passion ~ Who am I?

Be productive! Dig deep! Go the extra mile! Engage your creativity! Be as prodigious as is Mother Earth in her bountiful harvest unto us! And when your harvest is come, may you say unto yourself, Well done, good and faithful servant!

The Path of Best Intentions

We will reap what we sow in the realms of time and space. Our efforts will be magnified by the unseen realms—mysteries which we cannot begin to understand or appreciate in their fullness. Begin therefore with the end in mind.

Remembering how small we are in comparison with who we are—is the power to bring forth an appreciation—a benediction—on everything we plant, everything we touch and nurture—the power to bring forth a bountiful harvest. And most importantly, to bring forth such a harvest within our relationships.

Welcome to the amazing Sabian symbols!

These personal reflections are but an example of one person’s journey of discovery with the Sabian Symbols. This blog series was written in 2014 and 2015, during the last two years of my mother’s life. She and I lived here together in my home, and at the end of each day I would sit and write my reflections on each symbol. At that time I had studied the Sabian symbols for seven years. However, these blogs aren’t interpretations, they are simply my reflections about the symbols. Yet, they hold a very sacred place in my heart and in my memories. I have edited them lightly over the following years, but always preserving the essential feelings and energies surrounding that first attempt at writing about them. When this series is done being edited, around Scorpio season, I will most likely go on and begin a new blog series. Much has changed over the past nearly nine years! I have many other things I’d like to share about the symbols. But, for now, this is the first cycle of reflections.

If you are interested in beginning your own adventure with the Sabian symbols, I encourage you to begin keeping a set of notes of your own thoughts. You might begin your quest with drawing a Sabian symbol from the Sabian Oracle. You can find it by clicking the link below. Enter the time of the draw for later reference.

An Introduction to My Work

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to my work.

My work aligns with the 365-day calendar, not the 360-degree circle. In order to do this five additional days or spaces have been added to the wheel of 360 Sabian symbols. I call them the Days of the Divine Feminine. Yes, on Leap Year, there is an additional degree or spacing, which serves as Leap Day.

Thus, in my work, the heavens align in perfect order with the Earth and vice versa. For this reason, there are times when my work is ahead of the astrological sunrise degree and times when it is behind the sunrise degree and times when it is in alignment with the astrological degrees. You may have noticed this if you follow me and receive my daily blog notification emails. It is for those of you who have taken note of this that I am writing this explanation.

In astrological chart calculations using the 360-degree wheel, these five days are accounted for as “Holdover” and “Skipped” degrees to compensate for the difference between 360 and 365. Further, they are not the same every year! The Sabian Assembly invites you to download a free pdf Sabian Symbol sunrise chart for 2023. While there you might take a moment to read the explanation for these holdover and skipped degrees. In my work, there are no symbols skipped or held over, as each day has its own symbol. However, the dates on which these fall are matched into alignment with the calendar, the Earth’s orbit around the sun.

By the way, I am also an avid astrology student, and I am well-aware of the relationship and distinction between my work and astrological computations. I draw, study and read charts as do many of you, on a daily basis, and have done so for 17 years now. My work is not in opposition to astrology, but is my own creative alignment—an experiment, which I share with others and which is especially directed to non-astrologers. I understand and enjoy the benefits of both systems.

Let’s continue.

Where is this star pattern located, you might wonder. I placed one of the five points opposite the Galactic Center, which is at Sagittarius 28. It is the 3rd point of the star pattern. The placement for it is, therefore, between Gemini 28 and 29.

The five points I use are aligned with the seasons, given by Pythagoras as being five in number, not four. They are Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Terror Time or The Blackening. More on that here: Pythagorean Pentacle: Organic Cycles. Here are the five dates and Days of the Divine Feminine, which are also found in my book On the Shoulders of Giants: Advanced Techniques in Sabian Symbology by Saijin:

1st Day of the Divine Feminine – The Blackening – between Aquarius 4 and 5 – January 24

2nd Day of the Divine Feminine – Spring – between Aries 16 and 17 – April 7

3rd Day of the Divine Feminine – Summer – between Gemini 28 and 29 – June 19

4th Day of the Divine Feminine – Autumn – between Virgo 10 and 11 – August 31

5th Day of the Divine Feminine – Winter – between Scorpio 22 and 23 – November 12

Pisces 26 ~ “On this hand, on the other.”

Pisces 26

“On this hand, on the other.”

The Span of Protection

Phase 356

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Pisces 26° A new moon that divides its influences

This is a symbol of universal initiative as a basic dynamic in any personal scheme of things, and it reveals itself most simply in man’s instinctive and often blind outreach to the reality in which he participates. His action must be tentative until he achieves his own true self-discovery, but he makes a fine skill of his uncertainty and refuses to commit himself except as he encounters a full response to his deeper realization and ultimate motives.

The keyword is FINESSE

When positive, the degree is a thoroughgoing capitalization on life’s transitions and an effective development of every emerging potentiality of self, and when negative, a completely disruptive vacillation.

The formula is: sustaining-practical-universal-generalizing-spiritual-experimental.

I’m Only Human – Christina Perri

What’s a human being to do then when things are divided asunder, when things that are hidden make it all so very unclear. Strategic plans underway and out-of-sight with no resolution or rescue in sight. Wide is the gate and narrow the way, but do you go this way or that? A time of division demands making a decision. How can we ever hope to capitalize in the midst of such periods of transition? The answer lies within the this Sabian symbol. Read through it again, slowly. Understand. Focus. Read and receive knowledge. Here is the initiative needed in uncertainty to reach out, even if timidly at first, and to set one’s direction ahead.

Things that can neither be confirmed nor denied

Do things seem this way and that? Is there a lot of double-speak going on? A walking back of the talking just yesterday proclaimed with certitude? In the midst of such mayhem, how does one tap into the universal initiative required? On the one hand, we know that the Cheshire Cat told Alice that if she didn’t know her destination, then it really didn’t matter which way she went. On the other hand, we are told, that our destiny is often met on the road we take to avoid it. It’s quite paradoxical. A conundrum. A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma, as we often quote Churchill in saying.

So here we are at a new moon divided–this way or that–we must choose, for entropy is death, and a new moon is quite the opposite–it is insemination, conception, and a beginning. So, please, no sleeping right now, wake up! We’re at a climax!

“For it is waking that understands sleep, not sleep that understands waking,” and also, “There is an ignorance of evil that comes from being young; there is a darker ignorance that comes from doing it, as men by sleeping lose the knowledge of sleep.” C.S. Lewis

So, if you have to choose–once you slap a cold rag on your face–which way would you go? So, then, go! Do not look back unless and until your choice is proves itself wrong. Otherwise, assume you’re on the right track–just keep going!

“On this hand, on the other.” Saijin

The formula is: sustaining-practical-universal-generalizing-social-inspired.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Pisces 25° The purging of the priesthood

This is a symbol of the inevitable judgment which life must pronounce on itself, and of the sure penalties that await whatever may fail to prove its worth. Man demands an absolute integrity for his spiritual or immortal insights, and will have no falling short of his ideals in those who elect to be custodians of his higher and invisible treasures. He approaches the problems of his own regeneration through a dramatization of potentials he recognizes but cannot altogether instrument, and he will not tolerate their depreciation.

The keyword is REFORMATION.

When positive, the degree is revolt against all superficial exaltation of human nature, and when negative, blind bigotry and vindictiveness.

The Golden Compass

Pointing the way to truth ~ The Alethiometer

The golden compass, more formally referred to as the alethiometer, is an extraordinarily intricate device able to answer any question formed in the mind of the user. Created centuries ago by a metaphysical scientist, the truth-telling, future-seeing machine points not to true North like an ordinary compass, but to Truth itself. The alethiometer’s face is ornamented with 36 arcane symbols, each of which may convey different meanings in combination with any of the others and according to the subtleties of the machine’s motions. As you can imagine, this makes it incredibly difficult to read.

Difficult, yes; impossible, no! 36 symbols? And we have 360 with the Sabian symbols?! Think about that for a min– Nay, perhaps, we should pause and think about that for a long, long while.

Pisces 24

The Span of Protection – The 2nd Hemisphere of Pisces

Phase 354

Water Element – Common or Mutable

The formula is: sustaining-practical-universal-generalizing-social-responsible.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Pisces 24° An inhabited island

This is a symbol of the self-adequacy of experience on the objective side of everyday reality, and of man’s gift for the organization of his own private world in any area of his special interest. He is always able to function in a complete independence of the alien or the unfriendly, and to develop adequate resources for his need in what at the beginning might seem to be the most barren of situations. He capitalizes on the potentials among which he finds himself, and nurses the least of promise to its fruits.

The keyword is CULTIVATION.

When positive, the degree is achievement through a creative opportunism or inventiveness of exceptional order, and when negative, snobbish complacency and self-indulgence.

The First Place on Earth to Welcome the Sun, each and every day

There are things we can count on in life, like clockwork. Welcome to Kiritimati!
In Kiritimati, the first piece of land on this amazing planet we call earth, there is a constant greeting of the sun each sunrise which sets our calendar earth day going forward. You can count on it! That is their heritage as preserved in chant and song (see video marker).

The first to greet the sun each new day! Just imagine! What an honor! What a rich tradition they have. They know, like today’s symbol, how to keep first things first and then just keep on cultivating!

Kiritimati (Kiribati) – Christmas Island Documentary – Between Sky and Ocean  (27:01) The ending is wonderful!

Kiritimati Atoll, also called Christmas Atoll, is a coral island in the Northern Line Islands, part of Kiribati, in the west-central Pacific Ocean. Kiritimati Atoll was sighted on Christmas Eve in 1777 by the English navigator Capt. James Cook. Kiritimati is the Gilbertese spelling of Christmas.

This symbol holds great mystery and a tale that spans its very history.

Oh, speaking of history–PI day and the Ides of March–surround this symbol. Isn’t it curious, how this amazing mandala of Sabian symbols seems to line-up with such things as this?

Of one more island I would make mention, of unknown name, save that Carl G. Jung made reference to it in his memoirs, “This was a blessed island in the wild sea of new impressions, and I found a place to stand on from which I could contemplate the ten thousand things and their bewildering turmoil.” pg. 311, Memories, Dreams and Reflections

“Got time? How will you spend it?”

The Span of Protection

Phase 353

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Pisces 23° Spiritist phenomena

This is a symbol of the organic integrity of the world at large, evident here in man’s facility for actual and conscious co-operation with the potentials of an immortal reality. Implicit in the symbolism is the fact that the individual will be conditioned increasingly by the caprice of his ideas and the mishaps of his experience unless he gives continual attention to the realms of reality he has thought to make particularly his own. He achieves as he holds a clear picture of the end results he desires.

The keyword is SENSITIVITY

The Span of Protection

Phase 352

Water Element

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Pisces 22° A man bringing down the new law from Sinai

This is a symbol of the eternal authority implicit in the very fact of man’s ideals, and of a spiritualization of experience through the religious insights of human society and the institutions it has created for the common welfare. The inspired prophets of each age have been custodians of an enduring morality, and this has its embodiment in the mountain-top aspiration of even the least of individuals. Right is dramatized as a personal responsibility for the course of events.

The formula is: sustaining-practical-universal-generalizing-social-experimental.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Pisces 21° A little white lamb, a child and a Chinese servant

This is a symbol of the scattered divisions of labor through which any over-all reality is encountered by man in his everyday or more haphazard existence, and of the necessity that he brings the threads of his diffusion into a skein of meaning and opportunity. He must learn that nothing acts alone or persists in a vacuum, and that in consequence there is an integrating significance throughout his own experience. He must find this and draw it to single focus in some special design of self-expression.

The keyword is TALENT.

The formula is: sustaining-practical-universal-generalizing-physical-inspired.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Pisces 20° A table set for an evening meal

This is a symbol of nature’s prodigality as revealed through the normal satisfactions for which modern man seldom has to exert himself, and as these take on significance through his instinct for finding every phase of reality a special revelation of his own potentials. Every individual discovers that there is no part of the universe he cannot enlist for the fulfillment of his own desires, and in making every such potentiality an expression of his own genius he achieves its promise in a thorough self-gratification.

The keyword is FAMILIARITY.

When positive, the degree is an effective sensitiveness to every passing need of mankind, and when negative, naïve selfishness and a wholly witless optimism.

You are what you eat. Nourish yourself. Here’s where you do it best, at the table surrounded by those you love, family. Today’s symbol in its variety of models is well-worth investigation on just how to nourish both body and soul–connoisseurs of not just fine cuisine but also of truth.

Pisces 19° “The last shall be first at last.”

Pisces 19

The Span of Protection – The 2nd Hemisphere of Pisces

Phase 349

Water Element – Common or Mutable

The formula is: sustaining-practical-universal-generalizing-physical-responsible.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Pisces 19° A master instructing his pupil

This is a symbol of the unlimited potentiality of existence in any larger dimension, and of the demand of human intelligence for the self-refinement and self-orientation by which a greater understanding is possible. Life entreats the individual to employ its privileges and enjoy its bounty, and gives every encouragement to that initiative of spirit by which he may be led to do so. He finds that personality comes into its own as it is able to direct its own destiny.

The keyword is ELUCIDATION.

When positive, the degree is high executive ability through patient investigation and genuine psychological insight, and when negative, a desire to live by rules and a conceit of empty knowledge.

Because I Have Been Given Much

March 8th is International Women’s Day

The Fourth Wise Man was, most likely, a woman, or, if a man, he’d most likely embraced his divine feminine side, fully. Artaban, was the name of the Fourth Wise Man. Have you heard his story? The Story of the Other Wise Man by Henry Van Dyke read by David Leeson (Full Audio Book)

The self-commissioned stewardship of humanity is to serve… The King will reply. “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for Me” (Matt. 25:40)

“Women are a magical force. They surround themselves with an emotional tension stronger than the rationality of men…. Woman is a very, very strong being, magical. That is why, I am afraid of women.” C.G. Jung

“The last shall be first, at last.” Namaste ~ Saijin
