Aries 7° “Free your mind, the rest follows.”

red_or_blue_pill_crimson_quill-2

The Span of Realization – The 1st Hemisphere of Aries

Phase 7

Fire Element – Cardinal

The formula is: manipulating-critical-original-specializing-social-sensitive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Aries 7° A man successfully expressing himself in two realms at once

This is a symbol of a creative division of labor within the self, such as distinguishes human kind from the lower orders of life and enables any individual to participate in the experience of many interpenetrating realms of reality. There is capacity here for a complete control of events by shifting from one to another focus of emphasis whenever it proves convenient or expedient.

The keyword is PROFICIENCY.

When positive, the degree is unlimited versatility and a special gift for divorcing the things of issue from whatever lacks immediate pertinence, and when negative, a tendency to defeat all self-competence in an unintelligent scattering of interest.

Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin

“The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you’re inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.” Morpheus

PJ’s Manifesto, “Telling me your dreams” ~ The Hand of God

“You know what I love most about this moment. The only person who knows where I am right now… is me….it’s like looking into infinity. This is what perfection looks like. Big data hates this place. Free will. So they trick us. They take everything they know about us and they use it against us. To control us. They make it so easy. Don’t they? We can get a pill for any mood online. We come at the click of a button. We Uber our food. I mean, what the fuck? We’ve given up the right to choose in exchange for free shipping, and a money-back guarantee. We give them our data, and they make chains that fit us better…Wake the fuck up! Wake the fuck up!”

Welcome to the amazing Sabian symbols!

These personal reflections are but an example of one person’s journey of discovery with the Sabian Symbols. This blog series was written in 2014 and 2015, during the last two years of my mother’s life. She and I lived here together in my home, and at the end of each day I would sit and write my reflections on each symbol. At that time I had studied the Sabian symbols for seven years. However, these blogs aren’t interpretations, they are simply my reflections about the symbols. Yet, they hold a very sacred place in my heart and in my memories. I have edited them lightly over the following years, but always preserving the essential feelings and energies surrounding that first attempt at writing about them. When this series is done being edited, around Scorpio season, I will most likely go on and begin a new blog series. Much has changed over the past nearly nine years! I have many other things I’d like to share about the symbols. But, for now, this is the first cycle of reflections.

If you are interested in beginning your own adventure with the Sabian symbols, I encourage you to begin keeping a set of notes of your own thoughts. You might begin your quest with drawing a Sabian symbol from the Sabian Oracle. You can find it by clicking the link below. Enter the time of the draw for later reference.

Aries 6° “Construct brightly while you can.”

television

The Span of Realization – The 1st Hemisphere of Aries

Phase 6

Fire Element – Cardinal

The formula is: manipulating-critical-original-specializing-social-experimental.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Aries 6° A square brightly lighted on one side

This is a symbol of experience as the over-all sustainment of any personal or conscious being. A materialistic reality is found to be sheer illusion when taken of itself or given any power on its own account, but it also is discovered to be the servant of every human impulse whenever life becomes red-blooded or achieves a motivation and an effective appreciation of its own nature. Implicit here is the realization that things are given their fundamental ordering as they are accepted in consciousness.

The keyword is SET.

When positive, the degree is the absolute unimpeachability of a genuine self-direction, and when negative, complete loss of self-efficacy in a surrender to frustrations.

A Whole New World – Aladdin

Embracing the Infinite by Kelly Lee Phipps (February 5, 1971 – March 25, 2014)

Above the wavering sea stars await
your return
mirrored across the deep span
stretching within
The curving space between here and
there is endless
Yet it seems like you’ve been
abandoned in the emptiness

You can never stop the flow of dark imagery
coursing through your heart
Those chambers of guilt and fear always struggle
to contain the tingling fire dancing as your soul

It hurts to be free.
But when you step into your passion
the whole universe opens within…
And others may wander with black
holes for hearts
devouring your visions with their fears

But tell me. How old are you?

That’s not your age.
It’s simply the number of orbits
you’ve made around this star
You’ve made many orbits around
other stars like a timeless electron zipping around
an atomic nucleus
You are infinite!

And if you argue for your limitations,
you have to fight them.
But if you discover your possibilities,
you get to create them

So stand still,
gaze at the sky
Sense the reverence rising inside
And know that your being
Is an extension of eternity.

Aries 5° “Mobilize aspirations.”

9886374e296877886197720f3a478554

The Span of Examination – The 1st Hemisphere of Aries

Phase 5

Fire Element – Cardinal

The formula is: manipulating-critical-original-specializing-physical-inspired.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Aries 5° A triangle with wings

This is a symbol of the inviolability of man’s essential nature throughout every ramification of his experience, as long as he holds to the purity of his original impulses. There is here a very practical balance in his self-fulfillment, thanks to his threefold individuality in terms of skills, loyalties and values. Light rather than darkness remains the goal of his life, and his personal capacities become a continual refinement of every baser metal in selfhood.

The keyword is ZEAL.

When positive, the degree is the creative transformation of everything into an expression of enduring idea and a reflection of the real vision ahead, and when negative, blissful obliviousness to all normal or everyday considerations.

What is your aspiration? What is the call of the wind that you hear? Today’s symbol bids you onward to your goals. Time to take flight and be there!

Aries 4° “Hold on to what you believe.”

Aries 4

The Span of Realization – The 1st Hemisphere of Aries

Phase 4

Fire Element – Cardinal

The formula is: manipulating-critical-original-specializing-physical-responsible.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Aries 4° Two lovers strolling through a secluded walk

This is a symbol of the first innocent rounding out of conscious experience, and of an unspoiled assurance of personal potentialities for which no immediate sense of responsibility is necessary. Implicit here is the fact that reality is ever without meaning or power except as it stimulates the self to move in its own interest persistently and continuously whenever the least opportunity offers.

The keyword is ENJOYMENT.

When positive, the degree is an utterly naïve assimilation of self into its world and a complete flow of all effort towards some proper end, and when negative, the indiscriminate loss of the self’s real assets in pure self-indulgence.

Hold on to What You Believe ~ Into the Wild

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Aries 3° A cameo profile of a man in the outline of his country

The keyword is EXPLOITATION.

This is a symbol of a real breadth of participation in everyday affairs, and of the extent to which every individual tends to epitomize the tradition and culture from which he has emerged. There is here the suggestion of both an impersonal self-dedication to broader community interests and a highly personal dramatization of the self as a focus for group actuality.

Brighter than the sun

Oh, this is how it starts
Lightning strikes the heart
It goes off like a gun
Brighter than the sun
Oh, we could be the stars
Falling from the sky
Shining how we want
Brighter than the sun

Sky phenomena are increasing. Are they real? What well-made plans are underway? More importantly, whose well-made plans are underway? Are yours? What is your plan? How will you execute it, exploit it? This symbol tells us. Read it again. If you do not tend to your plan, the others’ plan will surely encompass you. Begin with an outline, then fill it in. There is not a lot of time. I recently received this from a friend, “Humanity has entered a very difficult period… The pressure and stress to move forward and create other conditions is going to be enormous. It is necessary to work and work very hard… There is no time.”

Be up and about your business! Mind it, and mind it well!

Aries 2° “Lesson One: You must toughen!”

2017-03-21_13-31-28

The Span of Realization – The 1st Hemisphere of Aries

Phase 2

Fire Element – Cardinal

The formula is: manipulating-critical-original-specializing-physical-sensitive.

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Aries 2° A comedian entertaining a group

This is a symbol of the mirror which life holds up to itself recurrently, and so facilitates an everyday understanding of itself. The identity of each individual is projected back into the wholly naïve potential of his experience, thereby providing a fresh and transcendent self-perspective. Here is man’s heightened individuality as he discovers he may play whatever role he finds useful in each momentary contact with others, together with the continual self-reassurance he gains in self-rehearsal.

The keyword is RELEASE.

When positive, the degree is the power of personality through a full and completely uninhibited self-expression, and when negative, a neglect of common responsibility through idle diversions of interest.

The Reason ~ Hoobastank

“A thick skin is a gift from God.” Konrad Adenauer

The things we laugh at the hardest—our biggest belly laughs—happen when we are brought face-to-face with the ridiculousness of ourselves. That is our release of our self-judgments, of our imperfections–that which absolutely must take place at the critical core level to make way for a rebooting, a resetting of our very essence of self-understanding and self-acceptance, warts and all. We simply must let go, laugh, and see ourselves from a higher level. Get there. Do whatever it takes. Laugh! Roar! It is really quite hysterical! And, no, you didn’t recreate the wheel. We meet there in our humanness–for laughter truly is the best medicine and it unites!

Adam Sandler’s infamous comedy routine explains: “They’re all gonna laugh at you!” (a seemingly forever looping audio–in case we don’t get it the first time, I suppose…) Adam’s career in comedy began with down-and-dirty routines. Maybe you put your nose up in utter disgust, if and when you heard some of those, like “The Longest Pee”. Most likely, judgmental snootiness deemed him unworthy of worldly success. Yet, Adam left us laughing at him as he journeyed all the way to the bank. Something to think about…

So, let us not be too quick to judge. That is the lesson. We’ve got to learn to laugh at not only ourselves, but to tongue-in-cheek the antics of others. Seriously. Let’s learn to laugh again. If you want release, that is…

“Learning to let go should be learned before learning to get. Life should be touched, not strangled. You’ve got to relax, let it happen at times, and at others move forward with it. It’s like boats. You keep your motor on so you can steer with the current. And when you hear the sound of the waterfall coming nearer and nearer, tidy up the boat, put on your best tie and hat, and smoke a cigar right up till the moment you go over. That’s a triumph.” ― Ray Bradbury

For a time such as this

I won’t even venture into the revolutionary impactful communications known as memes, icons, or emojis! You’ve got your favs, and I’ve got mine! They sure do hit the spot, don’t they! ROFLMAO

Leo 28° “Conceptual melodies.”

Leo 28

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Leo 28° Many little birds on the limb of a large tree

This is a symbol of the transcendence of the lesser things in life by a continual expansion of higher considerations, or of the individual’s ability in a crisis to center his attention on the enduring orientations through which he gains his own assurance. Here is a happy lightness of the human spirit as it rejoices in its infinitely varying relations with the beautiful and the good, or as its experience is poised at a point of highest satisfaction.

The keyword is RAMIFICATION.

When positive, the degree is man’s effective mobilization of all the unrealized possibilities of his destiny, and when negative, an enjoyment of confusion or the momentary self-importance it brings.

Cristofori’s Dream ~ David Lanz

The planet of sensation, Earth—our home–where birds sing, flowers bloom, clouds drift, waters flow, and mountains spire. With eyes, ears and nose; fingers, hands, legs and toes, all of our senses ingest, digest and consume all that is about us.

To each experience we attach a measure of significance through these sensate abilities. In the end we will have a story to tell—our astounding experiences and unique perspectives of what we have realized, those epiphanies of which we have become intimately aware.

Thus, born into such an amazing world and filled with such incredible personal senses, how might we plan, organize and construct for a future intake of our highest mental, emotional and physical endowment? We are the sum total of our experiences. Make yours a conceptual melody, won’t you, please?

This planet we call home, Earth, is filled to overflowing with opportunities to make stories of our own creations—and there are those who will choose to live life and create stories filled with anger and upset, full of hatred and misconceptions and loathing and self-pity. But there are other voices! Listen to them! They speak of unfathomable beauty and joy! Indeed by such inspired voices has this cherished tradition of story-telling long been kept alive among us—at the cradle, at the knee, around the campfire, from the pulpit and podiums of great men and women come…

Leo 27° “Regenerating love’s light.”

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Leo 27° Daybreak

This is a symbol of the cycles of change as an ultimate assurance to the human heart, with an emphasis on the reason as the means by which man knows the nature of his own continuance. No matter what may be the course of events in their over-all unpredictability, there is always dawn or springtime as the promise of resurgence or a new potential in every manifestation of self and its world. Reality is ever a beginning in the sense of the immediacy it offers the individual.

The keyword is GENESIS.

When positive, the degree is an untiring capture and recapture of life throughout the constant and confusing shifts of being, and when negative, wishful thinking and satisfaction in a vague tomorrow.

The symbol above is the trademark of The Sabian Assembly. At a Sabian conference in the summer of 2011, I met José Luis Mayoral. He came to the conference from Spain. As an amazing Sabian Astrologer, had been “reading” English (the works of Marc Edmund Jones) for many, many years, but yet he “spoke” very little English. We befriended one another with phones-in-hand to search for translated phrases and began what is now more than a decade of interaction. Working together, we have transcribed  (me) and translated (him) the Sabian Astrology lesson sets by Dr. Marc Edmund Jones into digital format, and we both serve on the International Outreach and Support Committee. I often muse that we must have been blessed with the gift of tongues those many years ago. It is inexplicable, but real, nonetheless.

At that conference, one morning, I saw him running towards me, quite anxious about something. “Despacio, despacio” ..slowly ..slowly, I motioned with my hands. Oh! It was his phone—he’d lost it! He was trying to tell me that he had come from the restaurant, having retraced his steps–not knowing exactly when or where, the evening before, he’d lost his phone.  Now, something about a Sabian symbol. What? I don’t understand. “Otra vez, otra vez,” .. tell me again .. tell me again.

“Amanecer. En mi habitación, estaba pensando profundamente. ¿Dónde había dejado mi teléfono? Y decidí mirar el libro de símbolos de Sabian y abrirlo a una página. Lo abrí a Leo 27 DAYBREAK. Y pensé… Un ‘descanso’ en el día. ¡Me había tomado un descanso en la cena! Un ‘descanso’ para cenar”.

“Daybreak. In my room, I was thinking deeply. Where had I left my phone! And I decided to look at the book of Sabian symbols and just open it to a page. I opened it to Leo 27 DAYBREAK. And I thought– A ‘break’ in the day. I had taken a break at dinner! A dinner ‘break’.”

We headed again to the restaurant where he’d just come from. He took me to the bar area in the back where he’d sat an eaten his dinner. I asked the bartender about a phone. He recognized José Luis and shook his head no as he had earlier when José Luis had asked, “¿Telefono?” Now, both of us disheartened, we turned to leave. It was getting very congested near the front entry-way as we passed–the hostesses were in a flurry, grabbing menus and motioning parties forward. It was loud and confusing. But in that confusion, I felt peace settle over me, and I saw an opportunity… As the hostess grabbed beneath the dais for a handful of menus, I leaned in and asked calmly, “Excuse me, but has anyone turned in an iPhone?”

“Why, yes! Here!” She lifted it up. José Luis saw his phone and jumped in shouts of exclamation and joy. He was ecstatic.

Well, that may seem to be the end of this story, but just in case you may have missed the critical point…  Here was a Spanish-speaking man who had bravely ventured into a country not his own, navigating our culture, peoples and  environment, only to have lost his one connection to home—his phone–separated from him. Well, he returned to conference now relieved and restored. Soon he would return to Spain, enriched by having met others of his group here on the other side of the pond. One relationship was sealed and forged to a new way ahead—Leo 27 Daybreak: Genesis. This symbol will always remain my evidence to him–and, more importantly, he to himself –that the Sabian symbols, like Sabian Astrology is for everyone. He’d thought the symbols “too American” and had dismissed them. He told me as much, but I pressed on relentlessly speaking of them and debating (in very poor Spanish) of their efficacy to all peoples. Now, they had done their magic and reconnected him to his phone, to his loved ones, to his homeland ….. at the “break” of day.

We left conference on separate paths, or so it would seem… In a decade of time, we have produced many works in both languages. We continue to forge ahead…

Draw a Sabian symbol from the Sabian Oracle!

Leo 25° “Sufficient unto oneself.”

Leo 25

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Leo 25° A large camel crossing the desert

This is a symbol of man’s capacity to overcome the handicaps imposed on him by the normal limitations of the world in which he elects to function, and of his underlying and basically inexhaustible endurance. Here is a psychological integration of human character, revealing an effective self-mobilization which the least of men may accomplish. His achievements in the face of the difficulties to be overcome are the real foundation of his self-refinement and ultimate self-discovery.

The keyword is ADEQUACY.

When positive, the degree is uncompromising persistence and uncomplaining self-expenditure in any course to be followed, and when negative, ruthlessness in an unintelligent self-interest.

Paraousia – Paraousia

Wholly, holy, presence…

The camel carries water within itself, thus “living” water. And if we were to envision ourselves like unto the camel, then instead of seeing life as a barren wilderness threatening our survival, we might instead, also like the camel, realize we have all that we need to fully engage and even prosper in the “wilderness”. We might shake any gloomy outward view and instead base our perspective on the light from within. We each came here, you see, equipped not just to start the journey, but to finish it, and we may accomplish that in any way, with whatever attitude, at whatever level of understanding and in whatever way of being that we choose.

“We’re born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we’re not alone.” Orson Welles

And that is the turning point from wholeness to holiness! In such a state—aware of one’s own living water within, this greater form of holiness will emerge—interdependence. When two or more come together in wholeness—each aware of its own self-sustenance—then the caravan, the group of the holy, begins moving and flowing, too.
