Cancer 20° “Exclusive ~ behind the scenes.”

Cancer 20

Dr. Marc Edmund Jones provides the official meaning of this Sabian symbol in his work, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology:

Cancer 20° Gondoliers in a serenade

This is a symbol of the ever-exuberant music of life itself, and is an emphasis on experience as a symphony of co-operative relationships. The divisions of labor which create a human society are here brought to high consummation in the expanding development of selfhood and its functions. The capacity of the individual spirit for participation in the basic stream of events is exalted momentarily in a contribution to the imagination and the hunger of the soul.

The keyword is SENTIMENT.

When positive, the degree is a perfecting of those personal traits and inclinations which bring an enduring satisfaction to every immediate situation, and when negative, a retreat of self from all worthwhile reality.

I Can Go the Distance ~ Michael Bolton

Anaïs Nin said, “We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.” But did you know she also said, “I tell so many lies I have to write them down and keep them in the lie box so I can keep them straight.”

A box of lies, decorated very pretty and with a bow on top, like a gondolier serenading through murky, polluted waters—they all serve, that is, until they don’t. What’s “serenading” you, and keeping you from seeing things as they really are? Sooner or later the gondola will dock, and there you will be, left with all your illusions and your box of lies.

But, if aware that you indeed are crossing over polluted waters, and yet can hear the melody that brings balm to your weary soul–the sweet strains of the gondolier–well, you will be blessed. To do both without rocking the boat—maintaining your equilibrium over troubled waters. A master can hold two truths—a paradox—in his hands, allowing both to coexist, even while each travel on to their individual destinies—that is the way of self-mastery.

AUTHOR’S NOTES

These personal insights are my reflections and discoveries with the Sabian Symbols. This blog series was written in 2014 and 2015, during the last two years of my mother’s life. She and I lived here together in my home, and at the end of each day I would sit and reflect on the day’s symbol and write down my thoughts.

At that time I had studied the Sabian symbols for seven years. My writings aren’t to be mistaken for interpretations, they are simply reflections on the symbols; yet, they hold a very sacred place in my heart and memories. I have edited them lightly over the years, always preserving the essential feelings and energies surrounding that first attempt.

Much has changed over the past many years! I have many other things to share about the symbols. This is but the first cycle of my insights.

If you are interested in beginning your own adventure with the Sabian symbols, I encourage you to begin keeping a set of notes of your own thoughts. Be organized!
